According to Lovett-Scott and Prather (2014), the assumption in the United Kingdom is that better educated nurses delivery higher quality care. As a result, the plan is to have all registered nurses eventually have a bachelor’s degree. There is a similar movement afoot in the United States. However, there are still nurses with diplomas and associate degrees able to take the same national exam and become licensed (p. 106). Some practitioners believe that the bachelor’s degree offers more management theory but adds little to a nurse’s ability to provide patient care. Those skills are learned best in the diploma and two-year programs that emphasize patient care and provide ample opportunities to practice in hospital and other clinical settings. What are your views on the debate? Do nurses with more education provide better care? Are we able to measure that in patient safety, patient satisfaction, or patient’s health outcomes? You may need to speak with a few nurses or research this topic in order to provide a well thought-out, educated opinion.

Thank you for all the information. I agree with you and one way to break the chain of infection is by primary prevention.
At any point, we can break the chain to infection and stop it from spreading to others, the sooner the better. According to WestOne, the best ways to break the link is; “preventative treatment – for those who may be exposed, rapid identification, prompt treatment – for those infected, good health and hygiene, environmental sanitation, disinfection/sterilization, hand hygiene, control of excretions and secretions, appropriate disposal of trash and waste, proper food handling, isolation procedures, airflow control, proper wound care, catheter care, aseptic technique, treatment of primary disease, recognizing high risk clients” (WestOne, 2013).
Prevention is a big component but so is educating our patients. Education can include early detection of flu/infection, proper hand washing technique are just to name a few. Professor C

Hi Maria,
You are right that the increasing population in the community contributes to the rapid spread of infectious diseases such as COVID. For example, I live in Southern California and there are so many COVID cases in Los Angeles because of all the people living there in such close proximity. Also, being near a major international airport, LAX, is a contributing factor because of the exposure of the disease from travelers. Controlling COVID will be difficult in Los Angeles unless people are compliant with social distancing and lockdown orders. Thanks for sharing!

Bi-weekly Practicum JournalingEvery two weeks, you will submit a reflective journal to the discussion forum for review by course faculty and your classmates. All are expected to engage and support one another by sharing these experiences in a supportive, constructive, and professional environment. Journaling is an active learning technique that is meant to enhance reflective practice (Blake, 2005). Reflective practice involves looking back over what has happened in the practice setting in an effort to improve performance or to encourage professional growth (Ruth-Sahd, 2003).Your Weekly Practicum Journal is: A personal, introspective subjective account of your practicum experience and how your practicum experience relates to Healthy People 2020 and course objectives. Include events that occurred in your practicum experience, and be sure to describe your thoughts and feelings about those events. How did your perceptions change? What did you learn that was unexpected? Describe your thinking about your thoughts and feelings regarding the new learning you experienced. Connected to South University’s College of Nursing Conceptual Framework Pillars (Caring, Communication, Critical Thinking, Professionalism, and Holism). Connected to prior coursework and experiences through reflective analysis. Written in a scholarly, academic style using APA style format. Two or three sentences are not sufficient nor are daily logs/reports of activities.Citations should conform to APA guidelines. You may use this APA Citation Helperas a convenient reference for properly citing resources or connect to the APA Style websiteBelow I have copies a paper on an Arkansas hospital which this journal has to reflect this hospital and the assignment should be about a telemetry/cardiac unit and the scenario should be something related to covid and older adults.Week OneArkansas is a community that is living in the US. They have inhabited the eastern side of western Memphis. The Arkansas lean medical center is the primary health facility in the community. The facility serves as the main acute health care center. The town is located on approximately 1000 acres of land with a population of more than 7000 people. There is limited landscaping in gardens and very few animals in the area. The unavailability of space for decoration has reduced the threats from poisonous plants and soil. This has reduced the risk of animals and children from being exposed to plants and soil-borne illnesses. Besides, there are only a few stray dogs. I didn’t see a dog or cat, and this made me conclude that there is a low risk of animal spread diseases. There are many private schools and a few public schools. There is no case of overcrowding in public schools. Both public and private schools appear in good repair with well-structured buildings (Arkansas, 2017). There is clear evidence of civil protection, with numerous EMS services and ten volunteer ambulance services. There is one police precinct in Arkansas. There is a new fire department in Villa Park.Arkansas has a crude birth rate of 8.7 births in comparison with 1000 inhabitants. This is the second-highest birth rate in the whole district of West Memphis. As per the end of last year, the community recorded an infant mortality rate of 3.11 percent as per a thousand live births. The leading cause of death, especially among the elderly, is chronic heart diseases. Diabetes, as well as cancer, is additional potential threats in the community. Among the youth, drug overdose is has been responsible for several deaths. There are more than 200 people in Arkansas living with HIV/AIDS. Also, more than 300 people are asthmatic. Concerning the new coronavirus, Arkansas has reported 400 confirmed cases with 20 deaths. One percent of the total children under the age of 10 years have been reported to have the acute respiratory syndrome. The problem has been said to be brought by an iron facility that poisons the air (Alexander, Maxted, & Vaughan, 2015).Why I selected Arkansas for my windshieldMy first reason for choosing Arkansas for my research was its overall environment and culture. The community is well centralized with a relaxed atmosphere. Besides, there is little interference in politics since very few campaign rallies were carried out there. I was also anxious to know the aspect behind the low numbers of COVID-19 cases in the area. The community is also under strong leadership with rapid development going on in the area (Jantel, 2017).Secondly, I choose Arkansas because of the industrial revolutionin the area. The community comprises of Dyke Iron Company, which has offered employment to more than 700 people in the area. I had also to study the economic, political, and industrial revolution in the community. The city is even more technologically advanced. It had noted that ninety percent of the total population was very active the social media. The town was also utilizing modern farming methods as well as excellent rearing facilities. Besides, the hospitals were well technologically advanced with modern equipped ICU and emergency services. I was also determined how the rate of health care’s access to the elderly (Arkansas, 2017).Characteristics of the aggregateEnvironment: there were several large factories in Arkansas. Several of the companies which affected the climate include the dry cleaners, artisan stores, and the paint manufacturing organizations. The chemicals used in those companies affected workers and people living in nearby apartments. The roads were marked well. Despite that, they weren’t able to accommodate the high number of traffics passing by.Housing: apartments, as well as multifamily homes, were most common in the area. There were no vacant houses, and there was a limited retail space. There were no advertised apartments for rent. The homes in the city looked quite old. However, most of the flats and houses looked conducive to excellent renovation (Jantel, 2017).Use of space: The land in Arkansas was primarily residential as well as commercial. There were large industrial buildings with numerous public parks. Most of the area was privately owned. There were rare open spaces, even on the spacious residences.Transport status: most members of the community-owned their private cars. However, there was a valuable use of public transport. Besides, there was work for a hike or walk around. The roads and spaced streets were able to facilitate community transportation, although as a result of the high-density population, congestion was frequent on the roads (Alexander, Maxted, & Vaughan, 2015).Quality of streets and sidewalks: I experienced several remodeled houses and newly built buildings, which included apartments. There were freshly completed street repairs. There was no littering and garbage on the sidewalks. However, there were several abandoned houses, real estate signs, and old non-functioning cars. There was a lot of noise from car engines and the company’s machinery. Many homes contained bottom and basement floors. Stores: many of the residents shopped locally. There was a myriad of restaurants, food shops, and cloth music, clothing, toys, artisan, and supply shops. There were more than 200 stores which served the outlined purposes. Members of the community walked, drove, and utilized public transport to access the stores, carry out their businesses, and shop their household goods (Jain, 2019).Services: there were numerous community-run agencies as well as health care facilities. Besides, the county health department offices were based in the area. There were additional private hospitals and several offices for doctors. Dentists and medical specialists carried out their activities in the area whose offices were mostly located on the first floors of multifamily residences. There were no palmists, herbalists, and spiritualists. Pubs, swimming pools, and sports grounds were available as recreational centers.People in the community: the majority of the people in the city were mothers, women, babies, and little lads. Besides and near the hospitals, men and women wore scrubs. Plainclothes also existed in hospitals. People were out in the streets at around 4 pm. People were appropriately dressed concerning the time of the day and their locations.Race and ethnicity: the community mainly comprised of white people. However, there were several black men. There were also a few Chinese and Indians who were primarily seen carrying out businesses in the area. Common recreational areas: the main hangout places appeared to be restaurants and pubs. Yeshiva Park and sidewalks outside the residences were also frequent. People were also seen to hangout around pizza and ice-creamshops. Hangouts differed from social-economic status. Sidewalks, parks, and restaurants were considered public and were open to a stranger (Alexander, Maxted, & Vaughan, 2015).Places of worship: there were more than 50 churches in the area, which indicated that most people were Christians. However, there were a few mosques and shrines for other religions. Neighborhood hangouts: the primary type of neighborhood hangout was outdoor dining. Mathews in was ubiquitous for this purpose, especially at night. People also enjoyed meeting in bars and recreational centers.Media: there were few political posters on store windows and houses. There was also a wide range of newspapers, which included the Jewish press. Magazines such as banyan were also available. There were advertisement displays and a large number of party affiliations (Windshield, 2016).Cleanliness; There were no litters and garbage on the town. The streets did neither smell. It was a good feeling walking through the avenues, and the roads were more pleasant.ReferencesAlexander,H.M., Maxted,M.C., & Vaughan,M.L. (2015). If I had been using a qualitative research project, I will utilize the principle based to gather the information. I will use area of observation as well as reflection notes to gather the data of mine. In this particular situation, the information obtained is made simple to a certain model or theme. This’s continually being created and an alternative search theory is produced, which eventually supplies the grounds for re-search instruction.
G’s curved concept is beneficial for creating a phenomenon of knowledge that can’t be defined with present paradigms and theories. The correct use of this particular technique in the thesis of yours is extremely apt to attain high marks. A rigorous and systematic process for analysis and data collection is offered by this methodology (Polit, & Beck, 2012). Thus, re-search issue could be studied at an impressive depth amount. The software of the methodology in training promotes critical thinking and creativity.
Convenience sampling may be the one I will use. This particular sampling tactic may be the most straightforward and amp; most explicit: you collect a sample you are able to. A useful sampling tactic is described because the researcher selects the sample participants based on convenience – the proximity of theirs or maybe the ability of theirs to speak with them in case we’re chatting about doing interview. This particular sampling tactic isn’t arbitrary since it’s picked straight by the researcher, therefore the researcher’s bias influences the outcomes of the investigation.

The following post is from another student to wish i have to reply adding some extra information. less than 20 % similarity
t is extremely important that nurses are part of professional organizations and thus collaborate with the improvement of nursing as a profession. The main objectives of these organizations are to constantly update the main aspects of nursing using training. These provide online courses, conferences and training which help to understand new scientific advances and evidence-based practices. For this reason, the American Nursing Association is willing to incentivize the profession to achieve at least 3 million registered nurses in the United States. Many professional organizations award many university degrees and scholarships with the aim of advancing professional development. There are also other resources such as scientific journals, websites, and updates that serve as mediators for nurses related to the profession.
The so-called Affordable Care Act also known as “ObamaCare” was intended to provide affordable health insurance coverage to American citizens, protecting consumers and thereby lowering the cost of services and power. organize the care provided to each patient. There are good and bad things that were debated from the beginning, some of which is receiving insurance for low-income Americans such as the unemployed, people with disabilities, and the unemployed who need medical care. Many people were favored, even the majority had pre-existing health conditions. Among the negative things this law affected a part of the population sector, since a fine was imposed on those who rejected it.
When we talk about the future and the different visions that I support, one of them is to provide optimal quality health services to individuals and communities with the maximum objective of satisfying the needs to maintain health and well-being. Using evidence-based practice is a great way to deal with most situations. In addition to the design of health care in a professional and competency-based manner. Exercise the different efficient leadership roles as well as the practice of caring and training the staff.
When we analyze the subject, we see that there may indeed be great differences between the training received and the new one that is offered 27 years later. Her emphasis from another point of view and based on different perspectives showed that the work had changed significantly, and that medical care and nursing practices were now focused on health institutions.
The American Nursing Association is one of the most popular and most studied organizations for nurses. This organization is promoting a high level of nursing practice as well as the rights of nurses to defend working conditions, labor laws with a more realistic and positive image of this profession, this organization, in addition to lobbying Congress, also debates improvements with the different regulatory agencies that affect nurses.
The different respondents decided to respond adjusting to the actual professional performance of the nurses practicing today. These interviewees showed us an incredibly positive evaluation of the work carried out by nurses. As professionals we are not only competent, but we also demonstrate humanity, honesty, ethics, and a lot of simplicity. Prevention and promotion are also included. Professionals must strike a balance. I believe that the response to the felt needs of the population and the effectiveness have a great impact on the image of these professionals.
The image of this nurse of the future must not only include these humanistic values, but her commitment to the profession must be one hundred percent. Your commitment to individuals, groups and communities is essential for the prevention, promotion, and maintenance of health and with it the perseverance that is held about our profession.

Week Discussion
The individuals that are now living in the United States today are extremely different. With all genders, ethnicities as well as cultures living together, the nursing workforce must be symbolic of this particular public. The present nursing workforce isn’t completely symbolic, but motivating young people of all the cultural, cultural groups and gender to see overall health as a career can help us do this goal. As the patients of ours start to be much more varied, nurses that are additionally different and take care of individuals are a wonderful benefit. Nurses that realize a patient ‘s historical past, personal experiences and culture greatly boost the patient’s comfort level (Andres, & Bolye, 2016). Most nurses benefit when companies generate variety a high priority. Nurses have equitable access to vacancies, other benefits and promotions when variety is valuable, though they’re additionally capable to find assistance from many other nurses that share the culture of theirs, other characteristics or ethnicity. A far more diverse team is able to do much better things for doctors and patients. With various perspectives and backgrounds, the team of yours could better evaluate as well as identify patients, resulting in a much better learning environment. The hunt for variety in the nursing workforce guarantees that people of cultural groups, countries as well as communities are contained in the staff. These folks bring unique perspectives and ideas which the staff is able to utilize for treating patients. While generally there are reasons that are many to diversify the team of yours, probably the most crucial factor might be that dealing with all kinds of nurses produces tougher links within the teams (Andres, & Bolye, 2016). These powerful bonds remain throughout the lives of theirs.
“First of all the, do you know,” is an expression which extends back to ancient Greece. The word applies nicely to cultural competence. Nurses first learn to enjoy the own cultural skills of theirs. A long-term attempt, cultural competence is a continuing practice of mastering understanding, respect, and sensitivity of the variety of others. This processes requires pupils to evaluate their very own abilities being empathetic and competent culturally to individuals, co workers, administrators and teachers. Self-assessment starts with an understanding of the reasons as well as goals of the student ‘s nursing career. Spending some time documenting these values is very useful (Mateescu, 2017). This particular evaluation helps you to file down beliefs, stereotypes, prejudices, prejudices, traditions, incorrect values and profoundly held assumptions. The use of culturally competent treatment concepts in the individual treatment atmosphere is a central perception of nursing. As pupils master appropriate cultural processes and concepts in the first nursing course of theirs, as well as the implementation of these principles throughout medical functionality must be administered as well as examined. To much better formulate as well as implement these techniques in medical tests, nurses seek things from culturally different communities as well as individuals anytime appropriate and possible (Mateescu, 2017). They might additionally need to participate in cultural activities as well as tasks in the own geographic regions of theirs, and internationally and nationally.
Cultural variety refers to interaction and coexistence between cultures that are different. The presence of several countries is viewed as important advantage of humanity, since it plays a role in understanding. On the flip side, each individual has got the right to enforce the culture of his by others and also the authorities. In cases that are many, the survival of one tradition is endangered by the development of other with a hegemonic vocation. In such instances, institutions and government should safeguard way of life which has much less energy to sustain itself and therefore ensure cultural variety. In exactly the same feeling, sexual variety may be the presence of various sexual identities and orientations (Ayega, & Muathe, 2018). Minority groups, which includes bisexual and gay groups, are accountable for protecting this particular idea therefore the rights of theirs aren’t violated allowing it to use exactly the same opportunities as the vast majority (heterosexual).
In cases that are many, international expertise in most cases might be limited. Business travel, tourism, overseas courses, etc., are circumstances where it’s just easy to recognize differences that are obvious (how to dress, etc.), punctuality, greetings, and that don’t involve some substantial challenges for a worldwide expert. Long-range overseas experience also doesn’t ensure the improvement of intercultural abilities, as most workers have a tendency to stay among expatriate circles, restricting any significant communication with neighborhood culture (Ayega, & Muathe, 2018). This particular very first perception is able to provide several chances on the company as there’s an excessive trust of individuals about understanding a certain society, particularly when you see that the interpretation of yours of variations was affected by the own culture of yours.

The following post is from another student to wish i have to reply adding some extra information. less than 20 % similarity
When speaking of diversity in nursing and the health care field overall, we refer to the differences that will exist between the individuals that make up a work group, although many times the interests are common, there will be differences in terms of age, sex , race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, skills, experience; the work group usually has differences and similarities among its members (Andrews et al, 2019). This diversity is important because it facilitates decision making due to the different points of view provided by each individuals, as well as the distinct approaches and perspectives will allow for easier problem solving, decision making, greater efficiency, and organization. For work, the results obtained for the patients are better. Many times when seeking medical attention, patients look for people who are similar to them in terms of their ethnic background, culture, language, as they feel more understood and more comfortable.
The more diverse society becomes, the workforce must also be diverse so that people feel cared for, fulfilling all the expectations from clients. It is stated that in the last thirty years nursing has been undergoing changes and transformations influenced by the aging of the population (baby boomers), by the approval of the health care law (ACA) where health insurance is provided to people who were previously uninsured and finally the preparation in the training of health professionals such as nurses who are better prepared to provide quality care to each patient (Ford, 2019).
To increase diversity and achieve coordination between the cultural composition and the workforce that serves the population, researchers are studying the influence of corporate culture and organizational climate on increasing diversity and are examining two main approaches to successfully increase diversity, currently fearing diversity management and organizational inclusion (Andrews et al, 2019). This year is declared by the WHO as the year of nursing. It is proposed that diversity is associated with better care for the community which is focused on patient satisfaction, better experience in counseling, patient education and that the doctor, nurse, patient communication is optimal.
The cultural self-evaluation of organizations, institutions, and health care agencies is a process where a series of strategies can be taken in the different health units to evaluate a complete or particular organizational culture of the sea. In this case, the first thing to analyze is demographic and descriptive data, where cultural diversity is an important link for patients, nurses, doctors and other health personnel, with the aim of promoting multiculturalism, the evaluation of cultural strengths is another strategy, looking for programs and activities where Support multiculturalism, and keeping in mind positive comments from customers and staff about the culture (Ford, 2019). Evaluate the resources of the community such as ethnicity, religious groups, political and economic support, observing weaknesses and limitations to work on them to achieve continuous growth. It is of great prominence to identify the leaders who evaluate and communicate in cultural self-assessment, one should evaluate the languages they speak with the aim of having translators if needed. In case it is necessary to make changes, members or stakeholders should be involved, after this implementation of possible changes to be made, if necessary, it is important to evaluate the effectiveness as well as monitor the results, it can be positive to create diversity initiatives and performance measures. For me diversity means differences, variety, abundance of different things, in this case cultural diversity is nothing more than the coexistence or interaction between different cultures (Ford, 2019). These distinct backgrounds generally provide its people with their perspectives, culture, beliefs, values, and worldview. As diversity in the workforce increases. the quality of medical care tends to improve. Currently the diversity in nurses and health professionals is exponentially rising. With this variety, the health field must protect workers from discrimination due to gender, race, age, or political party; it should work towards integrating more minority populations to receive health care resources. It is argued that this concept of diversity is closely related to interculturality and multiculturalism (Andrews et al, 2019).
It is important to know that cultural diversity starts from the family itself, with parents first teaching certain cultural elements to their children, so the culture of the children is different from that of the parents because it feeds on the culture of two people, taking elements of each one, merging into a new culture (Ford, 2019).
In the nursing profession there are various barriers to diversity since it brings many backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs together. The language barrier it’s one of these, many people love this profession and due to language problems they cannot realize their dreams. Another barrier is the cost of education, especially for students with low economic levels. Ignorance towards the profession is also an issue brought by diversity along with the absence of adequate IT tools, lack of knowledge about the entire nursing process, ensuring the people on the field have a vocation towards nursing since it’s a highly sacrificing career and not everyone is fit to perform nursing jobs. Nurses are exposed to contracting diseases and the terrible work hours limit people to choose this profession, opting for others where they will feel more comfortable (Andrews et al, 2019).

Maria:
Just as we need other infrastructure such as roadways, power grids, water supply or other fundamental services necessary for our society to function well, we need to have a network of public health “infrastructure” to form the base of our public health services. Franklin Delano Roosevelt stated: “The success or failure of any government in the final analysis must be measured by the well-being of its citizens. Nothing can be more important to a state than its public health; the state’s paramount concern should be the health of its people”.
In the United States, governments at all levels (federal, state, and local) have a specific responsibility to strive to create the conditions in which people can be as healthy as possible.

Just like we need an efficient transport infrastructure to facilitate a seamless movement within and outside a given place, efficient health infrastructure is what ensures the nation is healthy. According to Healthy People 2020, the goal of having an efficient Public health infrastructure is ensuring that the federal, state, tribal, territorial, and local health agencies have the necessary infrastructure to provide essential public health services efficiently. With a sufficient public health infrastructure, communities, states, and the nation at large will have the ability to prevent disease, promote health, and prepare for and respond to both acute- emergency threats and chronic- ongoing challenges to health. According to Healthy People 2020, an excellent public health infrastructure depends on a wide range of processes such as immunizations, infectious disease monitoring, quality drinking water, injury prevention, up-to-date information systems, and public health organizations with the ability to assess and respond to community needs.
Looking at the U.S public health infrastructure and some of the key characteristics that would define a robust infrastructure, I do not think our infrastructure is solid enough. Our health care system has been described by a wide range of literature as the most expensive in the world but has a poor quality and safety record compared to other developed nations (Squires & Anderson, 2015). Secondly, looking at the major disease burden affecting the healthcare system, I would say that our infrastructure has been focused more on profit maximization. Most of these conditions are preventable. I cannot understand why an important medication such as insulin for over 30 million diabetic Americans is still a patented product and sold by a few companies. In an article by Belluz, the inventors of insulin thought it was unethical to patent a life saving drug and sold it to university of Toronto for $ 1. However, if the investors were alive today, they would be shocked to death to realize that the price of insulin has been on an upward trajectory and some patients have to forego their injection because of the price. We are living in nation where some people due to their social-economic status have to choose between seeking preventive care and their daily bread. This is not a characteristic of a solid infrastructure. Additionally, Rosenthal (2018), highlights how our healthcare is a huge business by noting that hospitals for long have been taking advantage of patients and the poor in the community.Hide

As decisions are made to address changes in reimbursement in your workplace, how are these changes shared with the nursing staff? What suggestions do you have that could increase nurses’ awareness of health care financing issues?
According to Harrington (2019), after an in-depth analysis of the current and the past state of activities in the healthcare sector, changes in healthcare reimbursement are still expected in the future. Several variables influence healthcare reimbursement, and some of them include the insurance payer, the hospital, and the state. To meet the requirements of universal healthcare and the demands in healthcare, some necessary changes are being made in the healthcare reimbursement. Some of these changes include the introduction and implementation of new policies such as ACO (Accountable Care Organizations) and ACA (Affordable Care Act). Accountable Care Organizations policy was adopted to lower the healthcare costs while at the same time, improving the quality of care. The Affordable Care Act was established to promote value-based reimbursement and initiative-based performance. This paper will, therefore, concentrate on how these changes are being shared with the nursing staff and provide suggestions on how to increase the nurses’ awareness of health care financing issues.
Organizations are highly concerned about the changes in reimbursement, and therefore several decisions are being made in their actions. In the healthcare setting, making effective decisions emphasizes sharing the reimbursements challenges to the core stakeholders in the organization who include the nursing staff. In my workplace, shared governance is one of the instrumental approaches being used to share the changes with the nursing staff. This approach entails involving the nursing staff, which, in the process, promotes nurses’ engagement and accountability in the implementation of new reimbursement changes. The technique of shared governance is also helping to keep the nurses informed about the financial goals of the organization.
Another technique that my workplace is using to share the new reimbursement changes with the nursing staff includes the buy-ins.The nursing staff buy-in help in supporting change through innovation, creating more opportunities, and responding to the external and internal threats (French-Bravo & Crow, 2015). My workplace is using this technique through creating awareness on the expected changes and therefore developing a sense of urgency. After this step of raising awareness, the nursing leaders are now used to communicate the nursing staff. In this case, the nursing leaders are selected based on the level of influence that they have on the nursing staff. The nurses are then expected to give their feedback, whereby their opinions are considered in the implementation of changes.
There are several suggestions on some of the ways that can be instrumental in increasing nurses’ awareness of health care financing issues. One of the suggestions is putting more emphasis on the effectiveness of healthcare budgeting. The efficiency of the healthcare budgeting can be enhanced through empowering the nurses in the health care budgeting decision making. This will significantly help in motivating the nursing staff to put more effort into the effectiveness of healthcare budgeting, which helps to prevent financial losses. Another suggestion includes the healthcare organization offering training and development to the nursing staff. This will help in providing the nurses with more skills and information associated with financial management and healthcare financing.
In conclusion, to effectively address the reimbursement changes, it calls for a requirement to share these changes with the nursing staff. They can be shared through the use of techniques like share governance and buy-ins. While these changes are being addressed, nurses are supposed to be engaged in the decision-making process. This kind of empowerment also significantly helps in addressing the financial issues in the healthcare organization. Also, to increase nurses’ awareness of health care financing issues, it is recommendable to offer training and development services to the nursing staff for them to gain instrumental skills in healthcare financing and financial management.

Increase Nurses’ Awareness of Health Care Financing Issues
Notable alterations in healthcare recompense are being felt to cushion the elevating healthcare challenges and attain universal healthcare. At the national position, several policies address reimbursement matters have been entrenched. One such strategy is the Affordable Care Act that prompts most healthcare agencies to adopt initiative-based achievement and value based on reimbursement policies. The incorporation of the latest changes in healthcare reimbursement is a switch from the fee-for-service set-up of compensation to the achievement-based refund. A related change in the reimbursement entails the initiation of Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) that aim at fostering care quality while decreasing the cost of care. Based on ACO, reimbursement of care occurs through fixed remission, varied upfront payment, or even varying monthly payments (Mechanic, 2016). To address the reimbursement changes, decisions are being made in my organization.
In my opinion, effective decision making necessitates sharing the changes to the vital organizational stakeholders who include the nursing staff. One of the approaches being used by the organization to share these changes is through shared governance. The shared governance offers a set of guidelines regarding nurses` involvement in making organizational decisions. The nursing staff’s engagement in shared governance has promoted accountability and nurses` participation in the implementation of the new changes about reimbursement.
Notably, shared governance has increased the level of nurses` awareness concerning organizational financial goals. This increase is well communicated through having clear financial goals that tend to guide all stakeholders in the organization. Equally, changes regarding reimbursement are being shared with the nursing staff through the development of team-based care. Perse, team-based care puts the nursing staff at the center of healthcare reimbursement to ensure that nurses offer comprehensive and cost-effective care.
Subsequently, the establishment of buy-ins is another tactic used to share changes to the nursing staff regarding healthcare reimbursement decisions. The establishment of nursing staff buy-in begins by raising awareness regarding the anticipated change and involves creating a sense of urgency. Adjustments are then communicated to the nursing staff mainly through the nursing leaders who have a high level of influence on the nursing staff. Nurses` opinions are then sought to ensure that implemented changes are based on shared decisions. Nursing leaders need to assess both emotional buy-in and intellectual buy-in among the nursing staff (Kowalski, Cherry, & Yoder-Wise, 2013).
Nurses` awareness regarding healthcare financing issues can be improved through varied approaches. First, nursing staff training and development should occur at the organizational level. Through the training, nurses would become knowledgeable regarding healthcare financing and develop essential skills in financial management. Similarly, there is a need to encourage nurses to promote quality improvement that targets offering quality and cost-effective care to their patients. Issues of innovative thinking that reward nurses for showcasing exemplary roles in ineffective financial management to cut down healthcare costs are vital. Besides, there is a need to emphasize on effective healthcare budgeting whereby nurses are empowered to make financial decisions through healthcare budgeting. This emphasis would ensure that nurses put efforts to meet the budgets to prevent financial losses.

The diversity of U.S. population has necessitated for provision of culturally competent care based on the needs of individual patients. Nurses are positioned to provide culturally competent care to ensure positive patient outcomes (Ritter, Graham, 2017). Provision of culturally competent care is important in reducing health care disparities among various racial/ethnic groups in the United States. Nurses are responsible in providing quality and safe care based on patient’s cultural beliefs, values, and practices. Most of the Native Americans live in rural and isolated areas; thus, making provision of care a challenge. A culturally competent health care system is important in improving health outcomes and quality of care.
Many Native Americans experiencing homelessness in towns and cities suffer from various interwoven issues including excessive consumption of alcohol, intergenerational violence and trauma, mental health problems, substance abuse, and extreme poverty. According to a study conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Native Americans are always overrepresented by 19% among people experiencing the problem of homelessness (Noe et al., 2014). Also, this population group have higher rates of excessive intake of alcohol and substance abuse.
Working with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds has resulted to some opportunities and challenges for nurses when delivering culturally competent care (Ritter, Graham, 2017). Nurses should identify the differences in cultural beliefs, values, and practices that may arise in the clinical practice when providing care to Native Americans. To address these issues affecting the Native Americans requires improved cultural competence in the clinical practice among caregivers to ensure that the treatment and care are sensitive and relevant to Native Americans. Based on the analysis of some scholarly articles and my personal clinical experience, various strategies can be implemented to ensure provision of culturally competent care to Native Americans.
The first strategy is to perform a self-assessment on cultural competence. As a registered nurse working in a culturally diverse setting, it is important to determine your personal strengths and weaknesses in relation to cultural competence in the workplace. A number of tools for undertaking a self-assessment on cultural competence have been designed by some organizations. Secondly, as a health care professional working with people diverse cultural backgrounds, it is important to obtain a certificate in cultural competence. Obtaining this certificate will enable a nurse to increase his/her cultural knowledge, skills, and awareness through attending a number of culturally competent workshops, seminars, or training (Noe et al., 2014). This strategy will ensure that an individual nurse gains an insight of some basic cultural beliefs, values, and practices of the Native Americans.
The third strategy is improving communication and minimize language barriers. Studies have shown that lack of effective communication and language barriers are the leading challenges that affect provision of culturally competent care to Native Americans. The worldview, values, and beliefs of Native Americans are strongly rooted within their traditional language use; thus, language is important in assessing their culture (Noe et al., 2014). It will be better when a nurse can speak the language of the Native Americans or find a translator who can help in communicating with patients having limited English proficiency. The last strategy is engaging directly in a cross-cultural interactions with Native American patients. Effective interaction with patients when providing care requires a nurse to understand and effectively explore cultural needs, values, beliefs, and practices of the patients.
Reply 2 Disc 4
Native Americans who make up the smallest racial group and the most growing ethnic groups are associated with numerous social and health issues that could hinder the provision of culturally competent care to them (Giordano et al., 2020). As a result, there is a need for effective strategies in health care practices and decision making to facilitate the provision of culturally competent care for this community. These strategies should take into consideration the beliefs and practices associated with every tribe among the native Americans, considering that each tribe is related to its values and lifestyles (Jacobs, 2020). This is especially important in effectively addressing their health care needs even as the population continues to grow and move into urban areas.
Understanding the comprehensive cultural practices of Native American families is one of the strategies that can be utilized in facilitating for provision of culturally competent care. Even through care for a family is personalized, considering cultural aspects such as the traditional family organization is essential towards achieving this goal (Purnell & Fenkl, 2019). For instance, parental and guardian activities among Native Americans are often given to grandparents or aunts and uncles, which the biological parents are engaged in economic matters and other social interactions. Therefore, when offering care for a Native American patient, it is essential to determine the family member who will be providing care for them so that they will be included in the care and teaching (Purnell & Fenkl, 2019). Further, it is essential for health care personnel to avoid judging biological parents for not being part of the patient’s care. The care policies should also include the role of extended family in health care decisions.
Assimilation of beliefs, values, and taboos related to wellbeing can also be incorporated into care for Native Americans to achieve culturally competent care. This strategy requires awareness of the most common practiced cultural traditions in the community. For instance, there is a common belief among the population that grieving for a person who is dying hurries them to die. Thus it is inappropriate to grief while offering care for a Native American who is dying. Having an insight into such beliefs and taboos as well as incorporating them in practice is vital in the provision of culturally competent care (Butler et al., 2016). Further, when determining the cultural beliefs to be assimilated, it is essential to take into consideration the generation of the Native American patient, whether their geographic location is urban or rural, as well as their ties with extended family or other community members.
Practical and tailored communication strategies can also play a critical role in encouraging competent care of Native America. For instance, before the provision of care to the patient, it is essential to establish a rapport with them. This could be achieved through brief introductions and assurance that they are cared for. Further, it necessary to determine the barriers that could prevent the establishment of rapport and communication hence hindering competent care. For example, among most Native American cultures, looking one directly in the eye while talking to them is considered to be disrespectful (Giordano et al., 2020). Therefore, this communication style should not be seen by healthcare personal as a lack of interest or understanding.
In conclusion, understanding the traditions and beliefs of Native Americans is a fundamentally important aspect of offering culturally competent care. Additionally, developing rapport, as well as showing concern to them, should not be overlooked. Through these, among other strategies, the goal of offering culturally care for the community can be achieved.Hide

To prepare for a huge EHRS implementation, a facility must first understand who the EHRS will serve, where information that flows into the system comes from and who the primary users of the system will be after it is deployed at the facility. Part 1 of the Course Project will complete each of these to support the facility executive team as they assemble an EHRS development team.
Review the course project description on the Module 01 Course Project – Introduction page in order to understand the overall needs of the organization and the specific business processes that the project will address. In response to the needs of the organization, prepare a professional PowerPoint Presentation for the Executive Committee which will evaluate data needs for the organization so that an EHRS Development Team can be assembled. Refer to the Good Apples Group Case document in Module 1 and pay particular attention to 1) Clinical Decision Making and 2) Target Organizational Units found in that document.
Your PowerPoint must include at least one slide to present each bulleted item below to the facility executive team. Be sure to logically title each slide in your presentation.
List the primary sources/areas/departments within the organization which can be used to identify and gather user requirements. Show your understanding of the departments that are in a typical hospital; be specific and include a variety.List and briefly explain what departments that will be most impacted by an EHR system implementation and remember to include the Information Systems Department.List the methods that you would use to develop a comprehensive list of user requirements for the project. (Conduct research on the web or in our library on effectively using information gathering techniques such as structured interviews, focus groups, and surveys, in order to effectively address this section.)List at least 6 requirements that must be met in order for this project to address the needs expressed in the Good Apples Case document found in the project overview. Requirements should be specific to an EHR system development. Remember that a requirement is not the same as a general “goal.”

Requirements Gathering
What Is a Requirement?
A requirement is a description of what the product or service being created must do or what characteristics it needs to have. During the early phases of a project, requirements are written by business analysts in terms of how the project must benefit the organization and are typically non-technical. For example, such a business requirement might be “the project must manage appointment scheduling.” Such a statement could describe a well designed notebook as easily as a software product, and this business-centric type of requirement is important to ensure that the initial requirements of a project focus on the needs of the users, and do not bias the project towards any specific solution. Later in the project, business requirements become more technical in order to describe how the system will actually work.
Requirements Analysis
The basic process of analyzing an organization to determine requirements involves three steps:
Understand the existing situation (the as-is system)Identify improvementsDefine requirements for the new system (the to-be system)
To move the users “from here to there,” an analyst needs strong critical thinking skills and should not be swayed by previous product experiences or recommendations of solutions that have worked in other organizations.
As an example, consider a project where a user expresses a requirement that the new system must “eliminate overlapping patient appointments.” While this might be a worthy goal, the analyst needs to think about it critically. The analyst could first have the users think about circumstances leading to overlaps (two people adding appointments simultaneously to the schedule), and then describe the issues that lead to these circumstances (lack of communication, duplicate scheduling tools). By focusing on these issues, the team is in a better position to develop new business processes that address these concerns. We should note that requirements analysis techniques and requirements gathering techniques go hand in hand. Analysts need to use requirements-gathering techniques to collect information; requirements analysis techniques drive the kind of information that is gathered and how it is ultimately analyzed.
Requirements Gathering Techniques
Requirements gathering can and should be conducted using a number of different techniques. A fact many analysts must contend with is that some information presented by end users may be unreliable, but an even greater problem is the fact that not every expressed need can be addressed in the current project. Using several approaches and involving a wide range of people helps to balance the information gathered to thoroughly inform the requirements gathering process.
Common techniques include:
Direct interviewsGroup discussionsFocus groupsQuestionnaires / SurveysDirect observationDocument reviews
Requirements Gathering in Practice
An important consideration before getting to work on gathering requirements is that an analyst should acknowledge the importance of building political support for the project and establishing trust between the project team and the end users of the system. This process may be time consuming and require everyone in the organization to participate, but it should not disrupt the operations of the organization and should be conducted in a way that is convenient and sensible to those helping out.
The analyst should be careful when determining who is included in the requirements-gathering process. The choice to include (or exclude) someone is significant; involving someone in the process implies that the analyst views that person as an important resource and values his or her opinions. You must include all of the key stakeholders (the people who can affect the system or who will be affected by the system). This might include managers, employees, staff members, and even some patients. Also, be sensitive to the fact that some people may have significant influence within the organization even if they do not rank high in the formal organizational hierarchy. If you do not involve a key person, that individual may feel slighted, causing problems during implementation (e.g., saying “I could have told them this might happen, but they didn’t ask me!”).
Finally, do everything possible to respect the time commitment that you are asking the participants to make. The best way to do this is to be fully prepared and to make good use of all the types of requirements-gathering techniques. Although, as we will see, interviewing is the most commonly used technique, other indirect methods may help the analyst develop a basic understanding of the business domain so that the direct techniques are more productive. In general, a useful strategy for the analyst to employ is to begin requirements gathering by interviewing senior managers to gain an understanding of the project and get the “big picture.” These preliminary interviews can then be followed by document analysis and, possibly, observation of business processes to learn more about the business domain, the vocabulary, and the as-is system. More interviews may then follow to gather the rest of the information needed to understand the as-is system.
Requirement Writing Format
Requirements used in the delivery of IT projects must be written in such a way as to make it perfectly clear what the end product must do. For this reason it is important to remove ambiguity and focus on concrete, observable criteria.
Requirements can be grouped into three categories: business, user, and technical:
Business Requirements
A business requirement is an objective of the project that most closely resembles an existing business process. Business requirements are technology-neutral, meaning that they are written in such a way as to not specify what method will be used to meet the objective. As a matter of fact, a good measure of the usefulness of a business requirement is if it could be argued that a wholly non-electronic solution could satisfy the requirement. An example of a business requirement for an ADT (Admission, Discharge, Transfer) system might read:
The solution should gather and retain all data from patients from pre-admission through their discharge from the facility.
User Requirements
A user requirement describes functionality from the perspective of those people who will be using the project regularly. These should also be technology-neutral, generally speaking, although they are often written to address very specific needs. For the ADT system a user requirement could be:
The solution must permit digitally scanning insurance cards at admission in order to initiate patient record entry.
Technical Requirements
Technical requirements are often the most specific of the requirements needed to build a project, and should provide as specific a blueprint as possible for the developers. Business analysis specialists and the developers themselves are often engaged to write these requirements so that they clearly describe what needs to be built. An example of a technical requirement for the ADT system could be:
The solution must be compatible with input from Medicscan card scanners model 800N, 900, 3000DN.
Many of the requirements in these three categories may overlap, since they may be used by different members of the project team. All of them must be prepared prior to developing the solution, however, since as a body these requirements represent what is essentially a contract for completing the project. Requirements are therefore used not only for planning the exact time and resources needed to build the project, but may also be used to hold the project team accountable for their work once the project is delivered.
