Research Method and Design

The research method used for the study is the quantitative research method. The term “quantitative research method” describes an approach to studying social, economic, and psychological phenomena by examining measurable trends and patterns. This research method places a premium on empirical evidence from sources such as surveys, database exploration, or the algorithmic manipulation of preexisting statistical information (Ratelle et al., 2019). Quantitative research is distinguished by its emphasis on collecting numerical data and its application to the generalization of findings across populations or the explanation of a specific topic. Researchers can perform simple to highly complex statistical analyses on the collected quantitative data. For instance, it is summarizing the information, illustrating correlations within topics, or comparing different sets of summarized data.

The researcher will use a case study design for the study. A case study, as opposed to a more general statistical survey, investigates one specific instance in greater detail (Crowe et al., 2017). It is a strategy for condensing a vast study domain into a single subject that can be investigated relatively easily. The case study approach will incorporate data from databases like the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as well as other scholarly publications. Data triangulation is a strategy that boosts a study’s credibility, gathering information from separate sources. This strategy ensures that its findings are reliable (i.e., the degree to which the method is suitable for answering the research questions). The underlying assumption is that evidence gathered using diverse methods should lead to comparable findings (Crowe et al., 2017). To guarantee external validity, researchers must use a statistically and demographically accurate sample. Therefore, all the data from chosen databases will be analyzed to ensure that the findings reliably extrapolated to the population

The quantitative methodology and case study design are appropriate in addressing the research problem: to investigate whether there is a correlation between illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and open borders. By employing these techniques, the researcher will be able to collect information from databases maintained by the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and other peer-reviewed sources. Generalize it, and ascertain whether there is any correlation between the variables, thereby accurately addressing the research problem and purpose. The following two research questions guide my research: What is the correlation, if any, between illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and open borders? To what extent, if any, are open borders promoting illegal immigration and drug trafficking? Data about the research topics will be collected numerically from the specified databases and then analyzed to see if there is a correlation between the variables and to accept or reject each null hypothesis.

The research aims to determine if illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and open borders are connected. The case study approach is the best option for the investigation because it collects a variety of perspectives, in contrast to the singular view obtained from an individual respondent in surveys or interviews. This approach allows for a more comprehensive understanding of the topic and lessens the likelihood of bias. The enormous data from numerous databases guarantee correctness and representativeness, ensuring internal and external validity. The quantitative research approach ensures that the study’s aim is deducible from the problem statement and that the research questions contribute to answering the study’s overarching aim (Ratelle et al., 2019). Alignment is crucial to ensure the research study is well-designed and founded on sound reasoning.

The researcher will use a systematic sampling method to select files containing data on drug trafficking and illegal immigration in those specific states such as …..list all stats that you include. The researcher will also draw data for the study from publicly available sources like CBP and DHS databases and other scholarly works. The information gathered from various sources, including databases and scholarly articles, will be incorporated into the research. Kibuacha (2022) suggests that if the target population is considerably small, it is possible to sample the entire population to acquire an accurate picture and significantly lessen the uncertainty involved. This strategy will also remove the potential for bias in sample selection, which is a problem with many studies that use random samples. Before data collection begins, approval from the IRB is required. The performed statistical data analysis will be performed using the SPSS program. To confirm or refute the existence of a correlation between the dependent and independent variables, an analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be performed. The p-value will provide the basis for the researcher to decide whether accept or reject the null hypothesis.

Today, we live in an era of constant change in health; hence, constant clinical evaluation is needed. Clinical evaluation is critical since it provides information about performance and data that students can use to assign grades, decide, and develop their curriculum. My teaching philosophy would aim to develop a student-centered environment that encourages critical thinking and continuous learning. Besides, I believe that the notion of caring in nursing is often developed in class. The first method of clinical evaluation is observation which faculty members often utilize. Individuals can utilize observational guides, especially during skill demonstrations. The second method is a written assignment, including a nursing evaluation plan which can aid in comprehending an individual understanding process. Besides, it has the concept map, which has a diagrammatic teaching strategy that can aid in demonstrating ways in which patient assessment tool is configured. Lastly, individuals can utilize student self-evaluation, where an instructor can ask students to evaluate themselves based on a clinical performance rubric (Billings and Halstead, 2019). Students can evaluate what they have learned, their strengths or weaknesses, and areas that require improvement.

Evaluating students in the clinical setting can be difficult.  You are often managing multiple students across multiple units in the hospital.  As an instructor, you cannot physically be there for every task that the student does while in the clinical setting.  To effectively evaluate students in this environment, clear planning and guidelines are necessary for success. My three preferred methods include direct observation using a checklist, written assessment via a concept map and the use of simulation.   Using observation, which I primarily use at my student’s orientation day to validate specific critical skills necessary for their success, is a great way to clearly evaluate their understanding of how to complete a task with specific steps on a checklist (Halstead, 2016).  This strategy aligns with my teaching philosophy in the sense that it allows me as an instructor to directly work with my students and give them constructive feedback to improve their practice.  Although the bane of many students’ nursing experience, Concept Maps are another effective tool to evaluate students’ cognitive understanding of their patient and critical thinking skills.  I appreciate this tool because it allows me to see how students are taking the patient’s information from their chart and making sense of it.  It is an “…opportunity to complete a quick review of students’ thinking patterns and determine further learning needs” (Halstead, 2016, pg. 449).  This method about my teaching philosophy, allows me to evaluate how students are taking in the “big picture” of their patient and looking beyond the numbers.  Finally, simulation is fantastic way to be able to provide students a high-fidelity scenario to apply all their skills and critical thinking, to a scenario that normally would not be safe on an actual patient. Also, it allows you the opportunity to debrief with your students and discuss overall how the scenario went and reflect on their performance. “These debriefing sessions provide opportunity for students to gain insight into their performance and consider opportunities for improvement” (Halstead, 2016, pg. 452).  This reflects my teaching philosophy of applying concepts learned in theory and their application on real world scenarios.  It builds student confidence in their ability to manage their patient and apply it to the clinical site.  Using these combined methods, as an instructor I can evaluate my students’ ability in the clinical setting to effectively care for patients in their future career.
