the Healthcare Industry: Importance, Benefits, Value and Effects on Minorities

Develop the Financial Plan of your proposed solution.

Because this is a course in a MBA Capstone Research Project, we must always analyze the financial aspect of any strategic decision. Therefore your analysis is expected to be quantitative as well as qualitative.
The cases discussed throughout the MBA curriculum can give you some good ideas of what kind of information to include in your Research Project. Additionally, use the textbook for MGT516, Strategic Management as guide (especially Chapter 12.A Resources for Case Research and 12.B Case Study Analysis Methodology using the Strategic Audit).
Finally, your recommendations as a consultant should have included only few of the 54 (or less) Strategic Segmented SBAs.
As a consultant you should be thinking of an entrepreneurial venture that involves those SBAs and can be started with a capital investment not exceeding $1 million USD (If more capital is needed, please indicate it in your paper).
Therefore, you will submit the financial plan of your proposed solution (SBAs with more Future Prospects and Future Competitive Position Potential) using Financial pro-formas. For example: income statement with assumptions detailed, start-up costs for the first six months of operation – inventory, rent, etc. Or, a Case Study Analysis Methodology using the Strategic Audit.

Slide 1 and 2:   In your introduction, include one type of position you would like to hire for and the KSAs (knowledge, skills, and abilities) required for that position.   Specifically identify the KSAs, don’t just list them all together.   In your text reading there are specific examples to show you what constitutes Knowledge, what constitutes a Skill, what constitutes an Ability.    We want to see here that you know how to identify each.

Slides 3 and 4:  examples of methods used in recruitment efforts that foster diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Consider the diverse cultures and social practices that surround your specific local or regional community.  Remember, the focus is on recruiting for diversity, not just recruiting.

Slide 5:  Explanation of steps used in the employee selection process.  These steps are included in your text reading.

Use speaker notes to explain the content (in detail) for each of the slides.  The bulk of your presentation should be in the speaker notes not on the slides.

Be sure to use APA formatting and intext citations – remember, a source is not a source if you don’t include an intext citation to show where it was used.   Sometimes students include multiple sources but do not include an intext citation for each one of those sources, that loses you points.

When doing the PowerPoint , remember to follow the 6×6 PPT rule, the bulk of your presentation should be in the speaker notes, not on the slides.

CASE 1

J.R. is a nurse practitioner who serves an urban Chinese community. The challenges she faces daily include coordinating health care for the community members, fostering compliance with treatment regimens, and teaching the community about health prevention and early detection of diseases and conditions.

J.R. has learned that one of the main reasons the community members do not adhere to their treatment regimens is because of mistrust of Western medicine. Many of the patients are older adults who rely on homeopathic treatments they learned in China as children. These patients prefer to take Chinese herbs in lieu of prescription medications. Additionally, these patients do not like to attend health screenings or take part in immunization clinics because they do not believe these measures are beneficial to their health.

Questions for the case:

What type of prevention J.R. is trying to achieve when she encourages her patient population to attend the blood pressure screening events?
Please elaborate your answer; compare prevention types, give examples and share similar challenges you might have faced during your practice.

Continue to discuss the 3 topics listed below for your case:

Identify the different roles and responsibilities of the nurse.

Please discuss the challenges you anticipate facing when fulfilling the various roles of a nurse practitioner. How would you work to improve your weaknesses? Identify your strengths.

Which patient population is most likely to experience health disparities and why?

Submission Instructions:

Your instructor will assign you your case number and you will post on the case number you have been assigned.

You will reply to the other two case studies (One of each).

Your initial post should be at least 500 words, formatted and cited in current APA style with support from at least 2 academic sources.

Assignment 1 – Groups, Leadership, and the Workplace, due the end of

Assignment 1 – Groups, Leadership, and the Workplace, due the end of week 4. Assignment should be a minimum of 500 words, not including the reference list.  Worth 12% of final grade.

This assignment assumes that you have read and studied the Learning Resource materials for weeks 3 and 4.  Please structure your assignment as an essay, not as a list. Be sure that your assignment has an introduction and a conclusion. Your assignment should be structured as follows:

Part 1: Introduction

In a single paragraph, provide the reader with the key points you will be addressing in this assignment.

Part 2 (200-300 words): Primary Group and Secondary Group

In this part of the assignment, you will analyze two groups of which you are member.  For the first group, choose a primary (expressive) group. The second group should be a formal organization, such as a workplace or UMGC, or it could be a different secondary (instrumental) group.

For each type of group, using sociological definitions, explain the following:

Why the group would be considered a primary group or a secondary group

A family is a primary group. Primary groups are small, informal groups of people who are closest to us.

Examples of secondary groups may include a class, office, celebrity fan base. In secondary groups, members create a community but are not close to each other.

Your status in the group

Status refers to the rank someone has in a group. Responsibilities and benefits are often dependent on a person’s rank in a group. For example, parents hold the highest rank in a nuclear family. As a result, they may have the greatest benefits. For instance, parents often select the largest space in the home (i.e. master bedroom). In contrast, children hold a lower rank and are expected to follow parent’s rules such as, completing chores, and attending school.

The roles associated with your status

Social roles are patterns of behavior that are representative of a person’s social status. For example, being an employee is a social role. If the employee is in a management position he/she/they are expected to supervise subordinates.

What type of leader(s) lead(s) the group (instrumental, democratic, expressive, laisse-faire, or authoritarian) and what that type of leadership entails (in other words, what does the leader do that reflects of their type of leadership)?

Parents are considered to be leaders of their primary group. For example, authoritarian parents may utilize corporal punishment as a means to discipline their children. In contrast, authoritative parents may utilize reasoning with children to decrease negative behaviors.

Part 3 (200-300 words): Ideal Employment

Imagine your ideal (paid or unpaid) employment and answer each of the following questions:

What would be your ideal status and role in the workplace (be specific)?  Define status and role as part of your answer.

An ideal status could be that of a business owner whose role it is to devise a business plan, recruit employees, purchase inventory, create an inclusive work environment by providing diversity training to the workforce, etc. The status of business owner would yield the most benefit (i.e. highest salary), but also the most responsibility. Business owners must fulfill multiple roles in order to keep their business operational, and profitable.

What kind of organization would you like to work for (utilitarian, normative, or something else) and why?

What type of leadership style would you most prefer for your boss to have and/or for you to have (instrumental, democratic, expressive, laisse-faire, or authoritarian), and why?

As you think of your future career goals, whom do you regard as your reference group, and why?

Part 4: Conclusion/Reflection: In a final thorough paragraph, explain what you learned from this assignment. Did it change your view about your future career plans?  Be sure to identify at least one new thing that you learned over the course of writing this assignment.

Part 5: Reference List: Your Reference List should include all the resources that you have cited in your Assignment.  At the very least, it should include the reference information for the Week 3 and 4 Learning Resources.

This assignment will use Turnitin to assess academic integrity. Please see your syllabus for more information on how Turnitin will be used in this class.
