UNDERSTANDING THE SPORT INDUSTRY. world history essay help: world history essay help

There are a number of outcomes that have been attributed to the various sporting activities that are witnessed globally. There are also extreme critics in regards to professional sports as a result of the overemphasis being placed on winning a given activity, individual exploitations, and the excessive violence being witnessed. And as a result, one may wonder if playing a professional sport bad for your health.

For starts, professional sports are considered useful for one’s health considering the healthy lifestyle one does live in regards to the physical activities that they do perform. According to Wankel and Berger (1990, 167), participating in any professional sports requires one to undergo a number of physical activities during training and while playing. In addition to that fact, these physical activities do contribute positively to one’s health as if develops one’s muscles, cardiovascular health, coordination, and many more benefits which are being considered to be associated with the prevention of diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and hypertension just but to mention a few in regards to that aspect.

It’s not just about the body alone of which does benefit from these aspects, but also about the minds that benefit too in the sense that when one participates in professional sports, they also boost their mental health.  Note that good mental health does help in the prevention of depression in addition to an increased body-image and self-esteem. Keep in mind that individuals who participate in professional sporting activities do also benefit socially, thus developing a good friendship with their teammates, therefore feeling like part of a group. According to research evidence that does support the association of psychological well-being that does come with participation in professional sporting activities, mental health such as depression and anxiety have been noted to reduce among professional athletes due to positive mental health. Note that when talking of good mental health, basically one does refers to an individual’s ability in regards to developing the potential that they do have, increase work creativity and productivity in addition to building relationships that are considered to be strong with people surrounding them hence improving the quality of life that an individual is living.

On the other hand, professional sport is deemed as bad for one’s health due to various reasons in particular. For starts, begin at the state of one’s mental health, there are many mental health-related problems. Keep in mind that most of these mental health problems are being associated with professional sports activities, unlike recreational ones.  Note that professional sports do come with a lot of pressure rather than the benefits that come with the game. And most of the athletes are considered to be more susceptible to a given presentation such as alcohol use, eating disorders, or even contemplating suicide.  According to a number of research, it has been noted that some professional sports have an increased prevalence in reference to mental ill-health, more so elite athletes who have retired, the ones that are experiencing failure in performance, those that have suffered injuries or any form of negative events in their life. In addition to that, the athletes do tend to neglect and not seek help early as a result of stigmatization or the lack of understanding in regards to mental health and how it does influence their performance. Some even are deemed to be showing signs of weakness when they try to seek help. With all this in mind, professional sports can be bad for one’s health, more so the young athletes at the age of between 23-25 years of age.

Secondly on this argument that professional sport is terrible for one’s health is that when one participates in professional sporting activities, they are prone to injuries of which in the long run is deemed to have a disastrous effect on an athlete even long after they have retired from professional sports. Keep in mind that the formation of injuries and trauma strongly influences the rules of the game of which they do liberally allow an opponent to attack the tactics of their enemy. Keep in mind injuries do arise from both internal and external factors that are in play. The most common form of injuries in most professional sports is the concussion of which are most dangerous not because of the fact that they do interfere with how one’s brain does function but because they are the hardest to be spotted and, if not well taken care of can even lead to death. Other injuries are also dangerous as some do degenerate the body, thus hindering the body’s normal functioning. According to statistics carried out in professional football, about 12.1% of athletes participating in the various football events professionally are always presented with a chance requiring medical treatment during a match.

To sum it all up the argument in regards to whether professional sports is bad for one’s health, it is for the fact that the cons do outdo the pros in this case; thus, it is considered as being harmful to an individual’s health. Both the physical and mental health are affected and can drastically lead to a catastrophic end of life for an individual athlete, be it in line of duty or retired. Some of the injuries that affect an athlete can even persist after they have retired from the line of duty. Considering their mental health, some are greatly affected early in life with negative impacts on their lives, and considering the nature of their sport, they do not get easy access to medical attention or care, thus end up having a generally negative impact on their lives.  On that note, professional sports is not healthy for one’s health as the negative impacts do outweigh the positive impacts in the long run.

Staffing Challenges in a Labor Shortage market

The HR departments of companies are responsible for ensuring that there are enough skilled employees in the company and that the employees are well looked after. This means that they are responsible for solving employees’ problems and ensuring that employees are well compensated according to their skills and rank. However, this is not the only function of the HR department. They are also responsible for hiring new employees, both senior and junior ones (Noe et al., 2008). Finding the right people to work in the positions left blank needs HR to advertise the positions to the potential employees and conduct interviews for the shortlisted candidates. This process is easy for junior employees because the vacant positions can be filled by promoting the employees already working in the company. The HR managers need a staffing plan on how to perform their duties, and several factors may affect such a plan. One of the factors is the labor market (Noe et al., 2008). The HR manager needs to possess the information of the labor market to effectively manage the employees. They should know about the skills that are rare and skills that are easy to find.

After an employee leaves a company through whichever means and his position becomes vacant, HR is supposed to find a replacement to fill the position. As mentioned above, replacing a junior employee is easy because another one can be promoted within the ranks. However, for a key position like an employee in the senior management replacement, internal promotions do not always (Noe et al., 2008). From an external perspective, a key position in a company should be filled by an external employee. When a company recruits from outside, it receives many applicants from which it can choose the best candidate that meets most of the qualifications. The large pool of applicants enables the recruiters to pick the right person for the position. External recruitment could provide a company with new industry insights necessary for the competition that it may otherwise not get. Recruiting externally from the company means that current potential employees are skipped in favor of an outsider (Noe et al., 2008). The effect is that the employees may work hard and be motivated to be picked the next time that such a position occurs. External recruitment allows a company to hire professionals required for its success. It also enables a company to target its competitors by hiring their best employees away from them.  Therefore, the best way to recruit from an external perspective is by bringing new external employees (SHRM, 2019).

Despite the several advantages of recruiting externally, the best way to recruit is by promoting internally from an internal perspective. The first benefit of internal recruitment is that person who fills the key position already understands the company’s work and takes little time to get on-boarded. If they worked close to the people they were replacing, they might already know how they managed things and their short-comings (SHRM, 2019). recruiting internally from the company is also easy because it takes a shorter time than recruiting externally and is cheap. Internal recruitment motivates the current to work hard because they know that they will get promoted to senior positions if they excel at their work. The perspective notwithstanding, any company’s HR department should be well-equipped to find suitable employees to fill key positions.

Perform a SWOT analysis for Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts.

Starbucks has several strengths in its operations. It has a loyal customer base that buys from it regularly; it also has a predefined geographical area, with much of its dominance being the West of the United States. Starbucks also enjoys having a large branch base with over 22,000 shop outlets. Starbucks’ major weakness is the average price for its food and coffee being high, and its food products are more imitates and can be gotten elsewhere. Opportunities for Starbucks is that there is room for expansion to other markets and partnering with alliances. The major threat to Starbucks is competition from low prices by other food joints. (Putri et al., 2020). Dunkin doughnuts have a strength in their impact on the communities around through maybe sponsoring sports teams. They also have a convince of donuts and coffee to offer to their customers. Their main weakness is their limited size of the menu of the stuff that could be bought. They also opportunities to expand, and with the use of the mobile app and door delivery system, they have a great chance. The major threat to Dunkin donuts is competition from other brands.

Growth strategies have been pursued by Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts in the past and which

strategies do you believe will be most successful for the two firms in the future? Why?

The two companies coexisted together in the past by having all their operations deal with differently. Starbucks brewed its coffee, and Dunkin made its donuts separately until they started to venture into brewing coffee, too, giving Starbucks some competition. Starbucks also launched an online site where people could order coffee and just come and pick without waiting in line. Dunkin donuts later followed suit and launched an app that could help users order meals online.  Dunkin donuts are more focused on customer loyalty in the communities (Butler et al., 2018). They, therefore, have programs to support sports programs locally and abroad, which makes people want to come more to the shops. I believe sponsoring sports programs is the most effective strategy, and it is going to last for a long time compared to other strategies since it focuses on the people and the future of the people.

Which marketing metrics would be most helpful for an executive in charge of developing new

products for a coffee Chain?

Sales and profits would be one of the best marketing metrics for a coffee business. This is because it is a global measure of the revenue the business brings in to the market. Having many sales means a high number of customers prefer the product, and in turn, having the purchase of your product ends being marketed to other potential customers. Customer retention is another marketing metric. Having loyal customers to the business, as for Dunkin donuts, means the business’s marketing channels are working, and people would rather be involved with the brand. Brand awareness is another marketing metric in the coffee chain since having people associate certain products with the brand means they like it and are satisfied by what is offered to them (Grewal & Levy, 2018). Customer engagement is also a marketing metric since it ensures the business gets to know customers’ preferences and offer to change the outlook to fit their needs.

The project management of UnitedHealth grouped the stakeholders in terms of their impact, interest, and participation in achieving quality medical services and products and proper distribution to their clients.  These stakeholders include:

Medical practitioners such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and medical engineers -will be accorded high power and interest for quality services to their clients’ Medical engineers will be trained on the current technology trends, which will help them deliver quality services. Managers should make pharmacists know the reactions of clients on certain drugs. All of this should be motivated by the project managers.
Clients-are to be given priority; all products will meet the standard best for human consumption. The clients also should agree to follow all measures laid down by the other stakeholders.
Marketers – they will be kept closely monitored to ensure their advert serve the required purpose.
Transporter -The management will regularly inform them on the newest routes for proper and on-time delivery.
Head of all affected entities -the managers should inform them to ensure all programs are running well by monitoring them.

Mission: Deliver quality services and health products with more effort on product safety, economic development, public health, and good natural surroundings.

UnitedHealth group employed this method of analysis. According to (Thakur, et, al .2020), “It involves Political, Environmental, Social, Technological, Environmental and Legal factors.”

This entails tax, health regulations, and competition regulations.

Economic effects entail interest rates and prices.

It includes Attitudes towards product quality and attitudes towards customer services.

It includes Technological change and access to new technology.

Includes Water and air pollution and reuse measures effects on the environment.

Health and safety laws.

SWOT analysis

According to (Wang, et al.2020), SWOT analysis is a structure that aids in evaluating different factors that may have a substantial effect on business workability and their strategic implication.” It consists of the following:

The new brand of a drug that UnitedHealth will introduce in the market should create a good reputation in the market hence reduced competition.

Low production of this drug may lead to a low supply. UnitedHealth group wishes to develop serious strategies that will improve the process through amalgamation with other companies for more capital.

This company wishes to agree with the government for more subsidies that will reduce the cost of production.

Different companies producing almost the same product and services can be a dangerous threat. UnitedHealth Group will have to increase its bargaining power by giving the best services to its clients.
