Research is a very important element in the development of criminal justice policies. The patterns of crime around the world keep on changing depending on the dynamics like advancement in technology, changes in population and poverty levels. All these factors play an important role in the activities about the criminal justice system. Research helps policymakers in the criminal justice system to develop policies that address these changes in criminal justice incidents. It helps in ascertaining various criminal aspects and behaviors and develops policies in reaction to those behaviors (Hetey & Eberhardt, 2018).

One of Louisiana State’s criminal justice policies is to eliminate barriers to re-entry in the criminal justice system. The policymakers in the state are alive to the fact that there are very many former prisoners who find their way back to incarceration for minor offenses that may not have seen them locked in again. The policymakers put in rafts of measures to eliminate or minimize re-entry. First, criminal justice fines were tailored in a manner that offenders can be able to pay those fines. Penalties that could not be paid were also modified so that they could be flexible for the offenders to pay. Finally, restrictions on public assistance programs were lifted in the policy so that as many past offenders as possible could benefit from the program by finding something meaningful to do in life thus avoiding chances of engaging in criminal activities.

Specifically, Louisiana State had a criminal justice policy under the statue called Crime against Nature by Solicitation (CANS). This statue was offensive to the female gender as it targeted female who engaged in sex for money. Consequently, hundreds of women in the state were affected by the policy as they were arrested for engaging in prostitution and fined huge amounts of money failure to which they had to be incarcerated. Proponents of the policy thought that the moral decay in the state had reached alarming levels but opponents including the Women With A Vision Group argued successfully that the policy was discriminatory against women. It was eventually scrapped (Lambert, 2017). This example gives credence to the argument that juvenile justice programs and all other justice programs should be unisex to ensure equality in all criminal justice matters.

Policy efforts need to receive support for implementation since there are several stakeholders and key players involved in policymaking and implementation. These stakeholders must share the goals and objectives of the policy to make the implementation of such policy successful. Policy implementation involves players like bureaucrats, legislators, the political wing, the judiciary, and the police. All these players must support the policy for it to be successfully implemented (Collins, Critchley, & Whitfield, 2018).
