Future issues in Homeland Security Resilience

This paper discusses how two homeland security resilience issues pose the most significant challenges in the United States of America in future. These two significant issues are cyber security and the Covid-19 effects. As threats, risks, and vulnerabilities evolve, the Homeland Security Department must constantly adapt. When different points of view on homeland security are combined and synthesized, new insights are revealed about the breadth and depth. There are a variety of viewpoints and approaches that have shown the different facets of homeland security policy and practice (Rieger & Manic 2018). Despite the current cultural distinctions between emergency management and homeland security, this study analyzes the need for future solutions to future issues in Homeland security resilience. New and current homeland security programs that include emergency management ideas, practices, and research methodologies should be introduced to curb future issues in homeland security resilience, especially Cyber security and Covid-19. I chose to discuss Cyber Security and Covid-19. According to the United Nations’ National Security Strategy, the country must improve its resilience, including its capacity to withstand, respond to, and reduce fast, purposeful IT assaults and natural pandemics such as Covid-19.

Cyber security poses a significant challenge in future homeland security. To stay ahead of the current threats, both criminals and cyber security specialists must remain flexible. An attack on Colonial Pipeline in 2021 showed that cyber-attacks could cause considerable damage to critical infrastructure (Hausken 2020). This means that there is a lot of competition for government employees because of a lack of educated cyber security personnel. It’s not just defending government networks against cybercrime that the Office of the Inspector General identifies as a problem for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a substantial federal agency, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will deal with a wide range of IT issues. The stakes are significantly higher when doing so while supporting government operations. If not controlled cyber and IT criminals may target many businesses in America and cripple the nation economically.

The Covid-19 pandemic poses severe risks to health, economic stability, and public trust. Health, economic stability, and public trust are all in jeopardy after the Covid-19 pandemic. These risks have the potential to influence the way people make financial and political decisions and how they treat others (Castro & Zermeño 2020).When people identify threats to their well-being, economic status, and social group affiliations (e.g., their American identity, race or ethnic groupings, etc.), they might constrict or broaden their concern for others. (Increased concern for others, altruism, and social responsibility) From these threats, one may become angry at those they perceive to be beyond their circle of concern. After the recovery is complete, low-wage workers, those just entering the labor, and retirees will continue to be impacted in future (Linkov et al., 2021). The pandemic impact will stimulate packages and related measures on the distribution of evictions, foreclosures, and bankruptcies. Linguistic or technological limitations also affect the ability of employees and their families to receive government aid. Repercussions will be felt by individuals who are not eligible for aid, such as undocumented immigrants.

In conclusion, the Quadrennial Homeland Security should create several goals and objectives in the crucial Covid-19 pandemic and cyberspace, and the United States Department of Homeland Security should acknowledge resilience (Trump et al. 2019). In addition, one of the five QHSR missions should be committed to ensuring the system’s resiliency. Homeland Security (DHS) should have a Resilience organization that focuses on instilling a culture of readiness by implementing insurance, mitigation, preparedness and continuity, and grant programs. When coordinating state, local, and private-sector efforts to improve Cyber security and Covid-19 resilience, the DHS Office of Health Affairs is developing a Community Health Resilience Planning Template.

Two most compelling or exciting ideas shared by doctor Dweck

Carol Dweck’s two most important concepts are the power of yet, which helps you comprehend the learning curve and provides a roadmap for the future. Another idea was  the power of not yet offering insight into a significant event in a career, enabling youngsters to deal with adversities and adopt an optimistic view of their future progress. There is also a theory known as the tyranny of now, in which pupils cheat after failing a test to avoid failing again.

Applications of the video concept

When you believe that you can improve, the power of a positive mindset may be used to reduce stress and enhance your wellness. It helps you overcome negative self-talk by providing instances of how to do so. A longer life span, reduced levels of depression, and improved mental and physical health can all be achieved through positive thinking and the belief that one can improve one’s outlook on life.

Part 2

shared video I watched

The video I watched was by His holiness Pope Francis filmed in Vatican City on “Why the only Future worth Building Includes Everyone” the link is as below https://embed.ted.com/talks/lang/en/his_holiness_pope_francis_why_the_only_future_worth_building_includes_everyone

Thoughts about the video

My takeaway from Pope Francis’ video, “Why the future worth building includes everyone,” is that no matter what time it is, you should be happy to be attending conferences and that you should see your future through the eyes of others because life flows through our relationships with others and that everyone’s existence is intimately linked to others.

Part 3

New things Learnt

When you feel that you can improve, you may employ the power of a positive mentality to decrease stress and increase your overall well-being, according to new information which provides examples of how to deal with negative self-talk, which helps in the process of overcoming it and that you should look at your future through the perspective of others since life flows via our interactions with others. Everyone’s existence is intertwined with each other’s.

The most interesting thing

The most exciting thing was that by believing that you can improve, one develops a positive mindset that gives you the drive or motivation to work hard or look for other alternatives. And also that when you have the power of believing, you can overcome negative talks about yourself

How to incorporate the Weeks learnings into your daily life

When I’m faced with a struggle or amid a setback, I’ll take a minute to reflect on what that voice within my brain is saying and see if there is anything I can learn from it. On the other hand, critique might be seen as a chance to learn from others. I’m going to ask for some more help or mentorship in the future. Whenever I see someone performing better than I am, I try to pick their brains for some advice to improve my performance. As part of my new development attitude, I want to do one activity every day that takes me outside of my usual environment to expand my knowledge base. The only thing that matters is that I have an opportunity to try something fresh, learn from the experience, and take responsibility for any mistakes or nasty comments I get.
