2. Select one principle of the entrepreneurial management paradigm and use it to argue that the federal government must follow that paradigm in order to be successful.
3. Conclude with an opinion–do you believe that the principles of entrepreneurial management erode the principals of public administration?

Please follow all instructions and highlighted steps at the bottom of the page.
You have spent all quarter researching, reflecting on, and writing about a specific topic. Now it is time to take all that you have learned and present it to your local community by publicly “joining the conversation.” For this assignment, your goal is to share your position on your topic with a target audience and a direct focus. To do so, you will prepare your writing for print publication in the style of an opinion article written toward your local newspaper. The opinion area of a newspaper provides the community voice and gives local residents the opportunity to express their concerns or positions on topics, particularly as those topics have local impact.
Readers of opinion articles want to grasp the issue you are presenting and understand your angle right away, and they want to connect with you personally as a neighbor or community member. You must make your point quickly and memorably, with an ultimate goal of convincing readers to agree with you, act in some way, and/or change their minds. This assignment challenges you to demonstrate that you can tailor your writing toward a specific audience with a specific focus.
In this assignment, you will continue writing about your ongoing research topic, but you will modify it to meet the various formatting and style needs of a typical opinion article for a local publication. This does not mean that you can just take a 2,000-word paper and cut off 1,000 words; instead, you must demonstrate that you have made careful choices to revise your more academic writing to fit another medium targeted toward a different audience.
This assignment requires you to:
Determine a local publication to which you will write your Opinion Article. This is likely to be your hometown daily newspaper; however, you may also have a local alternative newspaper that you could use as your target publication. Either choice would be viable for this assignment. While you are encouraged to submit your opinion article to the publication, this is not a requirement. For this assignment, simply prepare your article as if you are writing to a very direct audience: the editor and readers of a local publication. So your instructor knows your target audience, begin your article with the heading “Written toward [insert name of news publication here]:”
Determine the style, tone, level of formality, etc. that is typical for that publication. Do this by reviewing and reading articles from the publication with particular attention to the Opinion/Editorial or Letter to the Editor sections.
Analyze the target audience for the publication, and consider how their needs dictate the writing choices you will make. This means you need to consider the backgrounds, beliefs, values, etc. of the people who are in your town or community. Think of ways you can make connections with them in your writing.
Write an Opinion Article of between 700 – 1000 words using the same topic you’ve been researching all quarter.
Use APA format- it is likely that the publication you choose will not use APA format; however, since learning APA is a key component of this class, we will continue to use it here. If you do decide to submit for publication, be sure to consult publication guidelines and use the reference style specified.
Important steps to follow.
The goal here is to explain who your readers are by showing what qualities or traits they hold. What makes them unique? You do mention that your audience is students and teachers, but what is your publication? Who reads it? What makes those readers a great target audience for your research and opinion? Maybe you need to be writing to a journal that is read by teachers of ESL/ELL.
What do my readers know about the topic? What are their current beliefs about the topic? What will they want to know? What is their purpose in reading my article? How can I build their understanding of my topic in a compelling way? (Think about writing strategies, use of support, etc.) What might my readers be skeptical about? How will I handle this skepticism? What choices can I make in terms of style, tone, and word choice to connect with my readers?

Oxidizers and explosives have been used as weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).
Oxidizers and explosives have been used as weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). For this assignment, you are the lead incident commander for Star City Fire Department, which is responding to an explosion at the Regional Federal Building in downtown Star City. In preparing to respond to this incident, you noted that it appears to be eerily similar to the 1995 terrorist incident at the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Information relevant to this case study incident is provided below.
Star City is a metropolitan city with a population of 750,000 people.
The ambient temperature today at 3 pm was 75° F, with winds blowing at 10 mph from the northwest to the southeast.
The Regional Federal Building in Star City is located in a congested downtown area with an interstate freeway passing within 200 yards southwest of the Regional Federal Building.
Approximately 1,550 people work at or visit the Regional Federal Building on any given weekday.
The explosion incident at the Regional Federal Building occurred today (Wednesday) at 3:17 pm. There are 43 fatalities and 132 injuries resulting from this incident.
The building alarm to evacuate workers and visitors from the building was sounded immediately.
The Regional Federal Building, which does not have an onsite Emergency Response Team (ERT), has a Security Department of 10 professionals who handle routine security concerns and emergencies.
The fire department’s first responders arrived on location at 3:28 pm, and you assumed your lead incident command duties.
Assuming that the explosive blasting agent used for this Star City incident is ammonium nitrate/fuel oil (ANFO), address the questions below in your case study.
Describe the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) classification (e.g., DOT hazard class, UN number, shipping description, type of blasting agent) and the properties/hazards of the hazardous materials comprising ANFO.
Explain how you, as the lead incident commander, should respond to this Star City explosion incident. Although this is not a transportation incident, determine the appropriate Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) guide number for ANFO, and discuss what ERG information will help determine how to respond to this incident.
Discuss how your emergency response actions would differ if this incident involved a dirty bomb comprised of dynamite and cesium-137 instead of ANFO. What are the acute radiation effects of a single whole-body dose of 4.2 Gy of cesium-137? List two reasons why terrorists have not yet used dirty bombs as WMDs.
Your response must be at least two pages in length, not counting the title page and references page. Also, make certain your assignment is formatted in essay form, as it should not contain extensive bulleted lists of information or data. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced. Paraphrased and quoted materials must have accompanying in-text and reference citations in APA format
