Global warming is a threat to the entire world and its future generations. The transportation industry is a billion dollar industry that is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and is steadily rising. All over the world teams of scientist, engineers, and governments are producing and proposing projects to transform the transportation market. Cleaner modes of transportation equate to cleaner air. Nations all over the world are accepting the challenge to positively contribute to decreasing the carbon footprint in the transportation sector.

To help achieve the ultimate goal of net zero, which means diminishing adding any new emissions to the world, over 190 countries signed the international Paris Agreement. This agreement will help achieve a climate neutral world and to limit global warming by mid-century. The Paris Agreement plays a landmark role in the world’s future because for the first time hundreds of countries are in agreement for a common cause to take all action to evolve and fight a common foe. According to United Nations Climate Change “The Paris Agreement works on a 5- year cycle of increasingly ambitious climate action carried out by countries”.( https://unfccc.int/process-and-meetings/the-paris-agreement/the-paris-agreement) These climate action plans are know as nationally determined contributions or NDCs. In 2020, countries submitted their NDCs to include what actions and resiliency steps they are going to take to reach the ultimate goal of the Paris Agreement. Even with the requirements for a 5- year update cycle, many countries have already contributed multiple updated versions with improvements and current standings. For example Australia is currently on its fourth version of its NDC which was submitted June 16, 2022. In the updated NDC, Australia talks about its first National Electric Vehicle Strategy which will interest more drivers into purchasing electric cars by introducing an electric car tax discount. They are also setting incredible goals by committing to reduce GHG levels by 2030.

This high demand industry is constantly in a race to determine the fastest and cheapest way to transport goods over oceans, air, and land. The burning of fossil fuel is a large portion of the emissions that come from a variety of these movement vehicles.
