Explain what you know about the topic you chose from your personal history or experiences.

Climate change has been occurring rapidly and unpredictably in different ways for many years. Having lived in California for a short while, I witnessed high and low temperatures in some areas while others registered uncontrollable heat waves. In 2021, Palm Springs had registered 120 degrees, and the high temperatures also cost the state’s power grid metrics, costing a fortune. Furthermore, other health hazards affected many people who had been reported to pass out and, in most cases, became hospitalized. Such occurrences happen annually because of adverse climate change, which is hard to predict because places meant to be warm or cold are now becoming hot and vice versa (Reyes-Velarde & Pinho, 2021, July 11). Hence, climate change has changed people’s ordinary lives, including emotions, views, and habits.

Under the climate change issue, I will focus on the Great London Smog. The Great London Smog is an example of how climate changes affect the environment. It happened in 1952 due to pollution and unfavorable weather conditions (Polivka, 2018). Since the industrial revolution, England established many factories, most of which were based in London during the 1950s. The industrial smoke combined with unfavorable weather such as windless conditions, cold, and anticyclones produced the smog. It lasted for four days, from December 5 – 9, 1952. The Great London Smog led to poor visibility in London, and many things came to a halt, especially transportation. The boats stopped, flights were grounded, and trains were canceled. In addition, there were a lot of deaths, and many people became ill. About 4,000 people died from the smog, although it is speculated that the toll could be higher. Also, there were many cases of childhood and adult asthma. This shows how pollution changes the environment, leads to sicknesses, and causes the death of innocent people if severe.

Discuss the beliefs, assumptions, and values related to the topic you selected

Understanding environmental conservation better is something humans must value to ensure climate change is as manageable as possible. The environment can set an individual’s tone, and the way sets the mood for the day. Climate changes like heat waves can affect the psychological functions of people, and this is why most groups have made protests in major cities aimed at insisting on how people should go “Green” to conserve the environment. Such events will remain in history for years to come. Also, I presume that environmental preservation is a natural instinct. Humans rely on their surroundings to survive and know when they are destroying the climate. Climate change affects everyone regardless of people’s justifications to harm the environment for financial gain.

Some of the values I related to this topic are replantation of trees, conserving energy, recycling, and spreading awareness about environmental conservation. One of the main causes of environmental degradation is cutting down trees. Although humans need them for firewood and timber, replantation is necessary to conserve the environmental ecosystem. Also, people should learn how to conserve energy. For instance, if one isn’t using a light bulb that is on, they should turn it off. In addition, people should learn how to recycle waste products, especially plastics, which are non-biodegradable. Finally, everyone should take it upon themselves to ensure that they spread awareness about environmental conservation to foster such values in their communities.

Discuss the relevance of this topic to contemporary society

Many events happen when things are adjusted. In modern society, much is happening, and people no longer take adverse climate changes seriously until they are affected directly. For example, the heat waves in California were never considered much of a threat until bushfires began, and people lost millions in property damages. Climate change should be seriously considered, and people should be mindful of what ways are being taught to keep the environment more “Green.” The pandemic is still present amidst us, we should not take things for granted, and climate change and its adverse effects could be another significant threat that awaits us in the future. The Great London Smog is also relevant in modern society. Humans depend on factories to produce many commodities. However, most people go overboard and destroy the environment for financial gain.

For instance, since most industries in London used coal as the energy source in 1952, this reduces the mineral’s deposits, which can lead to adverse effects in the future. Therefore, people should learn how to use resources wisely to ensure they aren’t depleted. We should also formulate other energy alternatives which will come in handy during times of uncertainty. In addition, climate change is relevant to contemporary society due to human activities. As the world’s population is almost reaching eight billion, there is a huge strain on resources. Humans should learn to conserve the environment as resources are scarce. Environmental degradation causes many people to die if they cannot access food and others to migrate if their homes don’t have favorable climatic conditions. In conclusion, the topic of climatic change is relevant in modern society as people should improve their environmental conservation techniques.

The Tulsa Massacre began on 31st May 1921, lasting two days when white residents attacked and destroyed the black residents and neighborhood in Greenwood (Messer, 2021). The social issue of racism caused the massacre; white residents attacked black residents because they thought a young African American man assaulted a white woman in an elevator. The killings began when the white residents demanded to lynch the young black man for something he did not do. The anger by the white residents resulted in them killing African Americans, and their property was destroyed and burned, destroying the Black Wall Street neighborhood in Greenwood, Tulsa (Messer, 2021). This was a social issue where white Americans believed that the young black man assaulted a white woman, which was unacceptable, and he deserved death despite them not confirming the actual events of the situation.

Historical Figure Participation

     J.B. Stradford was an influential figure who not only participated in the massacre but also lost his hotel, which was burned down by the white mob. Stradford led several protests before the massacre, fighting for equality and abolishing some laws that made African Americans’ lives hard and promoted inequality (Burts, 2021). J.B. Stradford was an attorney and businessman who owned several businesses in Greenwood and helped protect African Americans from lynching. In the 1921 Tulsa Massacre, he mobilized African Americans to protect the arrested young man, who the white mob wanted to lynch for something he did not do. Stradford mobilized his fellow African Americans to help protect the young man arrested from the white crowd, and he offered refuge to some African Americans during the riot in his hotel, which was burned down despite promises from the National Guard that his hotel would not be destroyed (Burts, 2021).  

Historical Figure’s Motivation

     

     J.B. Stradford’s motivation was justice for Africa Americans because, during that time, they were being arrested for things they did not do, with some being lynched by white Americans. In his speeches, he famously used “blood in the streets” to encourage others to protect their fellow people from lynching by white mobs (Burts, 2021). From past cases, J.B. Stradford had no faith in the police protecting the young black man from lynching by the angry white mob, and that is why he called for a meeting for his fellow African Americans to mobilize them to protect the young man (Burts, 2021). Things escalated quickly, leading to the white mob focusing on the Black Wall Street neighborhood instead of the young man.

Historical Context Influenced

     During the 1920s, African Americans faced much resistance from white Americans because more and more blacks were searching for jobs and becoming more prosperous (Jackman & Shauman, 2019). Blacks were employed during this period to cover the skill gap brought by World War 1 but still faced discrimination and inequality in the workplace. In the late 1910s, several racial riots occurred across the US because white Americans were angry they were replaced by African Americans when they were away from war (Jackman & Shauman, 2019). There was so much tension between whites and blacks, with blacks being disadvantaged with their property destroyed and being killed in large numbers by angry white mobs.

Connecting your Historical Event and Current Event

     A century later, racism and inequality against Africa Americans and other minority races in the US still exist despite efforts by so many activist groups over the years to fight for equality for all. Understanding the roots of racism and inequality has helped redefine how society understands racism and the perspective of minorities. This helps to understand white privilege, how it affects others and what one could do to eliminate racism. Historical events highlight strategies that worked and those that did not in eliminating racism, helping to identify strategies that can be used now to eradicate racism and inequality.

This homework assignment is based on the information covering the topics of instruction sets, memory address alignment, and RISC-V assembly language programming.

1. The four classes of instruction sets discussed in class are the stack, accumulator, register-memory and register-register. For this assignment, use the following specifications that are defined for each.

For all classes, opcodes are 8 bits (1 byte) and memory references are 64 bits (8 bytes). For the register-memory and register-register classes, register references are 4 bits, and available registers are referenced R1 – R6. Memory references are labeled A – F.

For each class, write the code sequence to compute the following:

C = A + B;

D = A – E;

F = C + D;

To analyze and compare the differences between the four code sequences from part A, complete the following a table with the identified items:
