For decades, women were considered weaker in STEM and engineering fields. Growth in female engineers and scientists has been witnessed not until recent years. I can still remember that many adults thought boys were better at math. Although people were not optimistic about girls’ math skills, I still did an excellent job in the math examination and entered the talented class in high school, where boys take up 70% of it. Nowadays, I am thrilled to bolster the perspective of women scientists who are wavered by stereotypes as a woman computer scientist. Admiring Fran Allen as the first woman computer scientist to receive the Turing Award sparks me to step into the computer science field.

In kindergarten, exposure to mental abacus calculation made me passionate about computing. I first contacted programming language at elementary school. The teacher taught me to use Logo language in Turtle Graphics, where I commanded a turtle to draw multiple graphs. Watching the little turtle walk and draw charged my entire day with energy and happiness. During high school, I began to study C++ and learned more complicated theories and programming, which built bricks for my computer science foundation. Such experiences captivated my passion for computer science from an early age.

I am currently a senior who majored in computer science at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The institute offers probably the best academic program in the world. I have an overall GPA of 4.0/4.0, winning me three times Faulty Honor at Georgia Tech. Therefore, I have firm learning skills with a desire for knowledge.

Stepping into college gave me a chance to take a closer look at computer science. Gradual plentiful knowledge of math fundamentals and more practice in different programming languages, such as java and python, help me discover the power of computer science and its applications. Concentrating on Artificial Intelligence, I learned about graph search, reinforcement learning, Bayesian network, and Neural Networks in course projects last semester.

I began my research journey on Intelligence Tutoring System with Prof. James H. McClellan and Dr. Greg Krudysz last semester. The three-semester-long research program is one of the most interesting yet exhausting experiences of my life. Although it was both emotionally and physically demanding, it instilled in me a resolute desire to study and practice natural language processing.

The intelligence tutoring system can impact education greatly, especially during the current pandemic. For example, chatting with students is one of its functions. Once Chatbot receives the questions from students in chat, it will retrieve related images and texts from slides and textbooks. Formally, TAs and professors are busy asking questions for homework and exams. During the pandemic, people can ask the chatbot for questions instead of going to school and asking TAs. The system can be applied to multiple fields and even help the disabled study.

In research, we usually first see the current system and

find the possible problems with it. I would research the codes, papers, and articles related and come up with a hypothesis. Through the process of adjusting and testing codes, our group will work together to solve the problem. Throughout my research, coming across unfamiliar theories and software that were formerly inside the software system or worthwhile to import was an often case, so actively studying from sites, articles, and other senior students is crucial and beneficial to me. Learning new knowledge thoroughly by myself freshens me up and gives me gratification. It arouses my interest in doing research in computer science as a Ph.D.

Outside my academic life, I find singing and drawing help me relax. I balance my preparation for a piano diploma and student union work with my pastoral role as a school prefect, allowing me to develop my prioritization skills.

Overall, computing is my ultimate ambition. I know, however, that I only touch the tip of the iceberg in computer science. The Ph.D. program gave me a chance to dive deeper into the ocean to unearth more spectacular fascination.

It is essential to understand one’s personal SWOT analysis that aid in giving insights based on our foreseeable challenges and strengths. One is additionally able to maximize on presented opportunities that might be crucial in career goals pursuit. According to my DISC personality assessment, steadiness dominates with 36%. This shows that I practice a lot of patience, and I am persistent. In addition, I can tolerate people and do not get my feelings hurt easily. I am thoughtful in whatever I do; I take my time to ensure every detail is captured and everything I do is close to perfect. Dominance follows with 30%, which shows that I’m assertive in my thinking, and I can deal with situations adequately without getting intimidated. Compliance holds 27%, which presents how organized and responsible I am in my daily activities and following procedures. Often, I find myself feeling comfortable in clean and tidy environments. Influence comes last with 7%, which shows how I relate and communicate with people. I’m a very introverted individual, and hence when it comes to influencing people and interacting with them, I experience some difficulties. I believe this to be true, considering that I can create new and original ideas to use in nursing practice and, build on established ones; modify them to fit an intervention in nursing practice.
