You have been designated as the safety officer for your station and have been asked by various commanders to develop checklists that identify essential components and procedures for the health and safety of emergency service personnel. Choose one piece of equipment (e.g., ladder, helmet, SCBA, etc.) and develop a 2-page checklist for the preparation for use of this piece of equipment. This checklist should incorporate all aspects of the piece of equipment that ensure its readiness for not only training but also response.

In addition, the 2-page checklist will include information for placing the piece of equipment back in service following an incident. This checklist should detail cleaning and inspection procedures, criteria for placing the unit out of service, and safety criteria that personnel should be aware of.

Once the checklist is completed, you will write a 1–2-page memo that you will submit to the various commanders reporting on the checklist you have developed and include the following information:

The variations from this checklist from a similar equipment check before training, before emergency response, and after use.
The important differences personnel should be aware of regarding the checklists.
The role that you as the individual performs when inspecting the piece of equipment.
How concerns should be addressed including taking the piece of equipment out of service and criteria for doing so.
Address any additional comments or criteria to be considered when the equipment inspections are to be completed.
Discuss the safety implications associated with both checklists and why personnel should utilize them for their safety as well as the safety of the members of their department.

The first article that I read was the New York Times article “We Have Reached Peak ‘Mental Health” written by Huw Green who is a doctor. What I liked about the piece was that Green brought up the subject that there are people who make the statement “we all have mental health”. He says in the article “It fails to actually name any mental health problems — those about which we ought to be raising awareness — and it also makes a claim that is sadly untrue; there are many people who, at least some of the time, do not have mental health.” What I liked about the article is that he talks about how he had patients who were struggling with mental health to show how mental health is more than just a thing people say they struggle with. 

The second article that I read was also from the New York Times “Mental Health Is Political” written by Danielle Carr. Carr mentions in the article how Covid-19 pandemic has effect people in the United States. What I like about the article is that he uses facts to state how covid affected people’s mental health. He says in the article ” To take two of the most common diagnoses, a study published in 2021 in The Lancet estimated that the pandemic had caused an additional 53.2 million cases of major depressive disorder and 76.2 million cases of anxiety disorder globally.

 

The third article that I read was another New York Times article which was “Why Is There Still No Strategy To Defeat Trump” written by David Brooks. What I did not like about the article was that it was too political. I am not really into politics, so for me it was too political. What I did like about the article was that he mentions the struggle of what it is like being a black man or woman trying to vote. He says in the article “Even though the criminal justice system disproportionately affects Black men, and many of the more high-profile killings by the police have been of Black men, a Pew Research Center poll released last month revealed that fewer Black men than Black women believe that police brutality is an extremely big problem for Black people.” He goes to then say that reason why black men and women don’t vote is that Democrats are ignoring the interest of Black men.

The nursing practice focuses on the use of evidence obtained from research to justify nursing interventions. For instance, the women who gave care during those times would encourage the sick to drink plenty of water and try to do something, simply because, they believed that the sick recover faster when they do something, rather than doing nothing. During those times, the trial and error method was the most common method, and it somehow worked. However, this has been replaced with the most effective way of generating knowledge and applying it scientifically, and that is, through research, (Boswell, & Cannon, 2018).

These questions are the motivation for nursing research, it is what pushes the nurses to conduct the research, so that they may obtain the answers to their questions, (Borbasi, & Jackson,2015).

The answers for the questions can be gotten only through research. Therefore, this becomes the opportunity for the nurses to conduct inclusive research. The research process can begin by reviewing the current evidence-based practice, evaluating the evidence censoriously and then deciding on the best research type for the circumstance in question (Smith, & Liehr, 2018).The duo argues that this process of ordinary inquiry is the base for evidence-based practices and also the commencement of the research process.

In conclusion, nursing is a wide-ranging career. Nurses work almost everywhere; in classrooms, businesses, hospitals, laboratories, community health departments, and home health care, among others. Regardless of where a nurse works, research applies in the same manner. It is therefore prudent to put a major focus on nursing research. Nursing research gives the nurses the opportunity of becoming the patients’ advocates as they provide the best findings, enabling the nurses to comprehend how to best take care of different situations and circumstances at hand.
