The Class Project for this course focuses on the evaluation of a business or organization and  
how they might strengthen their operations through technology, including their information  
systems. There are two parts to the Class Project; the SWOT Analysis and the Presentation. You  
will use the same business/organization for both parts; however, the grade received on the  
SWOT Analysis will not affect the grade for the Presentation (they are separate assignments).
Step 1: Choose a Business or Organization  
To begin, choose a business or organization that you would like to evaluate – it can be where  
you work, a school (UMGC), a place of worship, government entity (e.g., DMV, Secretary of  
State, courthouse, etc.), or any other type of organization. Since the focus of the analysis will  
involve information technology, the best type of organization to choose is one where you can  
envision technology playing a key role in improving products, processes, or services.

Now that you have chosen a business or organization for your Class Project, it is time to  
complete the first deliverable – the SWOT analysis. A SWOT analysis is a framework for

SWOT stands for: Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat. Commonly used by businesses,

General Situation. The student will be acting as 3rd Squad Leader, 1st Platoon, Company F, BLT 2/7, 13th MEU, I  
MEF in support of Operation Jungle Fury. Two weeks ago, the 13th MEU conducted an unopposed amphibious  
landing on the coast of Centralia. The MEU was requested by the Centralian government in response to the Montanya  
Revolutionary Army (MRA’s) recent nationwide offensive. Upon initial insert, the MEU established several Logistics  
Staging Areas (LSA’s) IVO of Camp Rommel (TH 781 716). For the last several days, BLT 2/7 has been attacking  
North to destroy the MRA combat power within the Bn Area of Operations (AO). Company F is currently on the right  
flank of the BLT. It is believed that the MRA forces within the assigned company AO are currently conducting  
resupply and reinforcement for their dispersed units that have been conducting non-stop operations for the last 30  
days. 1st Platoon is on the right flank of Company F. 1st Platoon is currently located at the Company Assembly Area  
(Co AA).  
 
Orientation. North is as depicted. The platoon’s assigned area of operations is bordered by the 77-Northing to the  
North, Hangman Tree Road to the East, MCB-1 to the South, and the Route 609 to the West. The terrain in our AO  
is comprised of sloping draws to the south and a network of steep fingers and draws with a few rolling hills to the  
North. Many intermittent streams exist within the AO, however they are dependent upon precipitation and seasonal  
weather patterns; they have the potential to slow rates and directions of movement. The vegetation is made up of  
primarily medium-growth trees, low scrub brush, and frequent patches of dense new growth and low-lying vines.  
Visibility is limited to 200m from the high ground and 100m in the low ground. Dismounted infantry movement is  
unrestricted throughout the platoon AO. Wheeled and tracked vehicle traffic is unrestricted on the improved and  
unimproved road surfaces and severely restricted off of these road surfaces, to include any paths or trails that run  
through our AO. Several pertinent tactical control measures that do not appear on the terrain model are Bn Obj 2 (TH  
824 781) which is approximately three and half kilometers to the NW; Camp Rommel (TH 781 716) which is the Bn’s  
AA; and Camp Fabious (TH 730 682) which is the 13th MEU AA. There are several tactical control measures within  
the platoon area of operation: Co AA (TH 831 746), PIt Atk Pos (TH 835 754), the LD (unimproved surface road  
running E-W IVO 755-Northing), SRP (TH 835 756), Plt(-) Aslt Pos (TH 838 765), Co Obj C (TH 835 765), and PIt  
Obj 1 (TH 843 763). IOC Village, which lies just North of the LD IVO 832 755, is a small desolate town made up of  
uninhabitable structures. According to map reconnaissance, there are two potential LZ’s within the platoon area of  
operations: LZ Snipe (TH 830 764) and LZ Canary (TH 845 768), however there are various clearings in our AO that  
could also potentially serve as tenable LZs during our operation. The high temperatures will be in the low 60’s over  
the next three days, with lows heading down to the upper 30’s. The weather is currently cloudy, with a 70% chance  
of precipitation within the next three to five hours. This will increase the number of intermittent streams, decreasing  
our rate of movement. It will also decrease visibility and the ability to hear subtle sounds throughout the wooded  
areas. Sunset is 2000, and moon rise is 2330, giving us 2 ½ hours of almost complete darkness after sunset;  
illumination will be below 10% making our NVGs mostly ineffective. However, at 2330 illumination will increase to  
65-70%.  
 
1. (U) Situation  
 
a. (U) Enemy  
 
(1) (U) Composition/Disposition/Strength. A MRA plt is known to have established a temporary LSA  
IVO Bn Obj 2 (TH 824 781). Last night at 2000, the Battalion Scout Snipers observed a plt (-) on Bn Obj 2  
digging in a deliberate linear defense to protect the LSA. As the Battalion Scout Snipers were moving south  
back to the AA, they observed a MRA sqd (+) preparing fighting positions on Co Obj C as an extension of  
the plt (-) defense in-depth. At the same time, a MRA FT(+) was observed eating chow and emplacing a  
machinegun on Plt Obj 1; they are likely elements of the same unit on Co Obj C. They were observed with  
(1) 240B MG as well as a possible RPG. There is a suspected EN LP/OP located IVO 836 762, observing to  
the south. From knowledge of the EN gained over the past two weeks, the MRA has a limited ability to

employ his 82mm indirect fire assets among his dispersed positions; he also has a very limited  
communications capability between his dispersed positions. The MRA are wearing desertpattern utilities.  
 
(2) (U) Capabilities and Limitations. The EN MRA sqd(+) have the ability to defend especially if they  
are able to canalize an opposing unit into their prepared engagement area, which is covered by MG fire and  
will defend until the loss of a MG or three priority casualties. Due to limited communications, they will  
require at least two minutes to employ indirect fire. They are capable of being reinforced up to Plt size by  
the EN from the north, but are limited by terrain, forcing reinforcements to arrive in one hour, and would  
only do so if they detect they are about to be attacked by a force three times their size or larger. The EN is  
capable of attacking utilizing harassing attacks within 300 meters of their position with FT sized elements  
who will attempt to inflict casualties before breaking contact. They are limited by their ability to mass above  
the fireteam level. They are capable of withdrawing to the north likely utilizing the gentle terrain along the  
stream NW of their position, but they are limited by terrain and would take one hour to reach their AA The  
EN is capable of delaying our movement through IDF but are limited by unreliable communication assets  
and visibility.  
 
(3) (U) Enemy Most Likely Course of Action. I believe the EN’s mission is to block IOT prevent our  
advance towards their LSA. The EN MRA squad (+) on Co Obj C is oriented SW and has two 240Bs machine  
guns, one of which is oriented SW along Route 609 and another which is oriented S along the intermittent  
stream network. These weapons are likely set in on principal direction of fire (PDFs) with interlocking fields  
of fire, and frame the EN’s engagement area along Route 609. There will be obstacles in his engagement  
area, which seek to canalize our forces, break up our formations, and disrupt our advance. The EN’s current  
security posture is likely around 50%, as the other half of their unit continues to improve their positions.  
They have likely dug skirmisher-trenches in the overnight hours, but are continuing to dig and will likely  
have their MGs completely entrenched by 1500. If they identify us from the LP/OP as we are moving North,  
they will attempt to delay our advance with indirect fire targets placed throughout likely avenues of approach.  
The LP/OP is a buddy pair that will move by foot to Co Obj C in order to report our activity, which will  
likely initiate an EN call for reinforcements and an increased security posture on Co Obj C to 100%. On  
contact, the squad (+) on Co Obj C will defend until they have sustained (3) priority/urgent casualties or we  
have closed within 150 meters of their position with at least a squad sized force. The EN squad (+) will then  
withdraw under indirect fire, utilizing one of their preplanned routes while attempting to reconstitute it’s  
forces and move to the North. However, if they observe a gap in our consolidation on the objective, the EN  
will seek to exploit this gap and attempt to regain the initiative via a counterattack. They are likely to have  
a preplanned target on the objective in the event that they are overrun. The EN fire team (+) is likely adding  
depth to the platoon’s defense and will conduct a delaying action until they are overwhelmed.  
 
b. (U) Friendly  
 
(1) (U) Higher’s Mission and Intent. NLT 1500, Company F destroys the EN MRA plt(-) on Bn Obj 2 and  
Co Obj C IOT prevent the EN from interfering with the Bn ME (Company F) attack on Bn Obj 1. The  
company commander’s desired end state is that no EN forces within the company area of operations  
interfere with the Bn ME attack on Bn Obj 1.  
 
(2) (U) Adjacent  
 
(a) (U) West. NLT 1500, Co E(-) destroys the EN plt(-) IVO Bn Obj 2 lOT prevent the EN forces  
from interfering with the Bn ME (Company F) attack on Bn Obj 1. We must cross the line of  
departure simultaneously with Co E.  
 
(b) (U) South. Elements of the 13th MEU have established LSA’s IVO Camp Rommel. Wpns Co,  
BLT 2/7 is conducting vehicular patrols of the MSR/ASR network within the 24th MEU AO,  
including MCB-1. We will have a limited capacity to use this unit for CASEVAC purposes

during the conduct of the mission as well as consolidation; it will take them as long as 25 minutes  
to link up for the CASEVAC.

Company; POF is 1st, 3rd, and 2nd Platoon.  
 
(b) (U) Artillery. Kilo 3/12 is located IVO Camp Fabious (TH 730 682) and is in GS of BLT 2/7. POF  
is E, F, and G Co.  
 
(c) (U) Bn 81mm Mortars. Located in a Mortar Firing Position (MFP) IVO Camp Rommel (TH 781  
716). The platoon is in GS of the BLT. POF is F, E, and G Co.  
 
c. (U) Attachments/Detachments. None.  
 
2. (U) Mission. NLT 1500, 1st Platoon destroys the EN MRA forces on Co Obj C and Plt Obj 1 IOT prevent the EN  
from interfering with Company E ME attack on Bn Obj 2. O/S, displace by unit via the most direct route to Bn  
Obj 2 IOT conduct link-up with Company F(-).  
 
3. (U) Execution  
 
a. (U) Commanders Intent. The purpose is to prevent the EN from interfering with Company F ME attack  
on Bn Obj 2. The EN’s center of gravity is their engagement area with interlocking machine gun fires.  
Their critical vulnerability is their exposed flank. We will exploit this by conducting a flanking attack  
away from their engagement area and identifying and focusing fires against their machine guns. The  
endstate is to deny the EN the ability to interfere with the Co ME Atk. The EN on Co OBJ C and Plt Obj  
1 are destroyed, and 1st PLT conducts successful link up with F Co (-) on BN OBJ 2.  
 
b. (U) Concept of Operations  
 
(1) (U) Scheme of Maneuver. 1st Platoon will have one squad as the ME and two squads as SE1 and  
SE2. 1st Platoon will conduct a flanking attack on Co Obj C with two squads online and one squad  
conducting an independent attack on Plt Obj 1. The direction of attack is North. 1st Platoon will depart the  
Co AA in a platoon column (MESE1-SE2) and move to the Plt Atk Pos and request permission to cross the  
LD. The LD will also serve as the SRP, where SE2 will release and conduct movement via an independent  
route to destroy the EN forces on Plt Obj 1. Upon release of SE2, the plt(-) will continue movement to the  
Plt(-) Aslt Pos in a plt(-) column (ME-SE1). The route of movement will be to move North along the west  
side of the clearing, avoid observation by the LP/OP, cross the intermittent stream, and occupy the Plt(-) Aslt  
Pos from SE to NW. O/O, the plt(-) will transition to a plt(-) online, oriented SW. Once the plt(-) has  
occupied the Aslt Pos, I will initiate (2) minutes of effective suppression from the Co 60mm mortars on Co  
Obj C and begin closing with the enemy. As the indirect fires cease, we will assault through  
Co Obj C from NE to SW with two squads on line. Upon assaulting through the objective (on my command), the plt()  
will establish a hasty 180 oriented SW. SE1 will have from 9 o’clock to 12 o’clock and the ME will have from 12  
o’clock to 3 o’clock. O/S, the plt(-) will transition to a 360 on Co Obj C. The ME will have from 12 o’clock to 6  
o’clock and SE1 will have from 6 o’clock to 12 o’clock. O/S, SE2 will displace by unit from Plt Obj 1 via the most  
direct route to Co Obj C. Upon arrival at Co Obj C, SE2 will be integrated into the platoon consolidation. SE1 will  
have from 8 o’clock to 12 o’clock, the ME will have from 12 o’clock to 4 o’clock, and SE2 will have 4 o’clock to 8

o’clock. O/S, 1st Plt will displace by unit via the most direct route to Bn Obj 2. I have already conducted  
crossboundary coordination with the Company Commander regarding the potential fires crossing Route 609.  
 
(2) (U) Fire Support Plan. There is one planned Essential Fire Support Task (EFST) for this attack  
during the conduct phase.  
 
(a) (U) Task. Limit the En IVO Co Obj C and Plt Obj 1 to engage friendly forces with direct fire  
weapons.  
 
(b) (U) Purpose. IOT allow the ME to close with and destroy the EN located on Co Obj C and Plt  
Obj 1.  
 
(c) (U) Method. There are two targets planned to accomplish this EFST.  
 
1. (U) Target: YF1012. Trigger: Once the platoon is online in the ASLT POS and we have eyes on the  
EN on IVO Co Obj C. Location: TH 835 765. Observer: primary Platoon Commander, Alternate  
Platoon Sergeant. Delivery Agency: Co 60’s. Attack Guidance: HE/Q. Communication Net: CO  
TAC.  
 
2. (U) Target: YF2034. Trigger: Upon observation of the enemy. Location: TH 836 762. Observer:  
Primary Platoon Commander, Alternate Platoon Sergeant. Delivery Agency: Co 60’s. Attack  
guidance: HE/Q. Communication Net: CO TAC.  
 
3. (U) 3rd Squad leader, you are allocated (1) preplanned target during this phase.  
 
(d). (U) Effect. EN IVO Co Obj C and Plt Obj 1 is suppressed, friendly forces close with the EN unimpeded.  
 
c. (U) Tasks  
 
(1) (U) 1st Squad. You are the Platoon ME. NLT 1500, destroy the EN MRA sqd(+) on Co Obj C IOT  
prevent the EN forces from interfering with the Company F ME atk on Bn Obj 2. You will be on the right  
½ of the plt (-) online formation.  
 
(2) (U) 2nd Squad. You are the SE1. NLT 1500, destroy the EN MRA sqd(+) on Co Obj C IOT prevent  
the EN forces from interfering with the Company F ME atk on Bn Obj 2. You will be on the left ½ of the  
plt (-) on-line formation. You are the Aid and Litter Team to assist in extraction of any casualties. You are  
the Search and EPW Team. BPT assume the mission of the platoon ME.  
 
(3) (U) 3rd Squad. You are the SE2. NLT 1500, destroy the EN MRA fire team (+) on Plt Obj 1 IOT  
prevent them from interfering with the plt(-) attack on Co Obj C. O/S, displace by unit from Plt Obj 1 via  
the most direct route to Co Obj C.  
 
(4) (U) Platoon Sergeant. Ensure that each Marine draws chow, water, communication assets,  
ammunition, and any other equipment as per Paragraph IV and V. Upon consolidation, assume the role as  
the POC for any casualties at the 12 o’clock position in the plt 360, and coordinate their extraction via the  
Co GySgt.  
 
(5) (U) Platoon Guide. Supervise the platoon rehearsals as per the Coordinating Instructions. Upon  
consolidation, assume the role as the POC for any EPW’s. Set up your collection point at the 6 o’clock  
position and coordinate their extraction with the Co GySgt. Supervise and report to me the completion of all  
communications checks prior to execution.  
 
d. (U) Coordinating Instructions

there for 30 minutes. After (30) minutes, the Marine will turn left (South), remaining in the treeline on the east side of Route 609, proceed to the Co AA. When challenged, the lost Marine  
will execute the near/far recognition signal as per company SOP. Once inside the Co AA, the  
Marine will report to the Co CP and check in with the Co 1st Sgt.  
 
(b) (U) LD – Plt(-) Aslt Position. If a Marine becomes separated from the platoon between the LD  
and the Plt(-) Aslt Pos, the lost Marine will hold in place for (1) hour, and if not found, orient  
themselves south, and move until he arrives at the first unimproved surface road (LD) and wait  
there for (1) hour. After (1) hour has passed, the Marine will turn right (oriented West) and  
move to the first improved surface road (Route 609) and wait there for 30 minutes. After (30)  
minutes, the Marine will turn left (South), remaining in the tree-line on the east side of Route  
609, proceed to the Co AA. When challenged, the lost Marine will execute the near/far  
recognition signal as per company SOP. Once inside the Co AA, the Marine will report to the  
Co CP and check in with the Co 1st Sgt.  
 
(c) (U) Plt Aslt Pos – Co Obj C. Co Obj C. If a Marine becomes separated from the platoon between  
the Plt() Aslt Pos and Co Obj C, the lost Marine will stay in place and wait for (1) hour or until  
he sees or hears the platoon in consolidation. If after (1) hour, if the lost Marine has not seen the  
appropriate consolidation signal (YSMK), he will orient himself south using the terrain and  
move until he hits the unimproved surface road. He will then turn right and move West. Once  
he reaches route 609 he will turn left and move south attempting to link up with elements of the  
company moving North along the road, or continue until he reaches the AA. If challenged, the  
lost Marine will execute the near/far recognition signal as per company SOP. Once inside the  
Co AA, the Marine will report to the Co CP and check in with the Co 1st Sgt.  
 
(d) (U) 3rd Squad Leader. Develop and brief a Lost Marine Plan for your attack on Plt Obj 1.  
 
(4) (U) No Comm Plan. Per platoon SOP, radio checks will start 1 hour prior to execution. A second check  
will be conducted 10 minutes prior to departing the assembly area. A final check will be conducted  
between the platoon main body, the company HQ, and 3rd squad prior to departing the squad release  
point. At the assault position, we will stop for no longer than 5 minutes and attempt to establish  
communications with 3rd squad and the company HQ. Communications with 3rd squad is not essential  
to execution but would aid in coordination. If we are unable to communicate with the company at the  
assault position, we will conduct our assault as planned without IDF. En route to the objective,

communications with the company will be required for indirect fire support and CASEVAC; we are  
capable of completing the mission without IDF, and communications with Weapons Company can suffice  
as a ground medevac platform. 3rd squad, because you are operating independently you will also  
conduct a radio check with the company CP prior to departing the SRP and develop your own lostcommunications plan IAW with your SOM.  
 
(5) (U) Base Unit. The base unit for the plt (-) attack will be 1st Squad (ME).  
 
4. (U) Administration and Logistics  
 
a. (U) Administration  
 
(1) (U) Enemy Prisoners of War. All EPW’s will be treated IAW STRESS. Upon consolidation, the  
EPWs will be moved to the 6 o’clock position in the 360 where they will be secured with flex-cuffs at the  
collection point. Ensure EPWs are segregated by rank, separating the officers from enlisted. They will  
remain in the collection point until the Plt guide arranges for their extraction back to the Company GySgt at  
the Co AA.  
 
(2) (U) CASEVAC. Weapons Company mounted patrols are capable of ground medevac and will be  
our primary platform for casualty evacuation. CH-53s from the 24th MEU based at Camp Fabeous (12km  
SW at TH 730 682) are available for air medevac out of LZ Snipe, LZ Canary, or other tenable clearings  
identified in stride. The next echelon of care is BLT 2/2’s Battalion Aid Station located at Camp Rommel,  
the Bn AA. Routine casualties will be treated in stride during the conduct of this operation. If any urgent or  
priority casualties are sustained between the AA and the LD, the designated Aid & Litter Team and corpsman  
will provide treatment and carry the casualty while the platoon provides security for the movement west to  
Route 609. I or the Platoon Sergeant will make contact with Weapons Company via radio in stride and  
initiate the request for medevac. Upon reaching the Route 609, the A&L team will mark the casualty  
collection point via violet smoke. Upon visual confirmation of approaching Weapons Company patrol, we  
will conduct near/far recognition and linkup IOT allow Wpns Company’s patrol to transport the casualty to  
the Bn BAS located IVO Camp Rommel. If no Weapons Company patrol is in the area, the platoon will  
continue movement S along the E side of Route 609 until they reach the Co AA, conduct near-far recognition  
and link up, and then transfer the casualty to Company Corpsman Co 1stSgt for follow-on care and  
accountability. If we sustain an urgent or priority casualty between the LD and the plt (-) Aslt Pos, we will  
eliminate the enemy threat and then attend to the casualty. I will attempt to communicate with Wpns  
Company mounted patrols or the company for ground (primary) or air (alternate) medevac. The platoon will  
execute the same procedures to move the casualty west to Route 609 to establish a casualty collection point  
(CCP) for Weapons Company to conduct link up, but if no patrol is available, we will secure the most tenable  
LZ for air medevac. If no mounted patrol or air medevac is available, or we have no communications with  
higher, we will evacuate the casualty on foot south to the Company AA as earlier described. If there are two  
or fewer casualties, we will then resume our attack. If any urgent or priority casualty is taken during the  
assault, we will first remove the EN threat, then move that Marine to the CCP at the 12 o’clock position.  
Casualties from 3rd Squad also must be accounted for and moved to the CCP prior to extract. Extraction  
should be coordinated through the company, either via Weapons Company’s patrols at Route 609, or  
conducted by air from the most tenable LZ IVO Co Obj C, primary LZ Snipe. If we have no communications  
capability and sustain urgent casualties, the platoon will transport the casualty to the Co AA via the most  
direct route (Route 609). (3rd Squad: develop and back-brief an effective Casualty Evacuation Plan.)  
 
b. (U) Logistics  
 
(1) (U) Ammunition. All Marines will have a standard fighting load before stepping off from the Co AA: (7)  
magazines 5.56mm for all M16 service rifles and (20) magazines 5.56 per IAR. In addition, all M203  
grenade launchers will have (3) HEDP and (3) Illum 40mm rounds.

(2) (U) Chow and Water. All Marines will step off from the AA with (2) DOS chow. All Marines will step

(1) (U) Location of Key Leaders. I will travel with 1st Squad (ME). The Platoon Sergeant and Platoon  
Guide will travel with 2nd Squad (SE 1). Upon consolidation, I will be in the Platoon CP at the center of the  
position. The Platoon Sergeant and the Platoon Corpsman will be at the 12 o’clock position. The Platoon  
Guide will be at the 6 o’clock position.  
 
(2) (U) Succession of Command. 1st Squad Leader until the Platoon Sergeant has gained enough
