Social media plays a vital role in providing access to virtual support networks. From a study that involved 34 schools, 61.9% of undergraduate students felt overwhelming anxiety while 39.1% felt extremely depressed that it was difficult for them to function (Cain 738. However, recent research has revealed that the use of social media and smartphones is a significant contributor to the mental health issues of students. Many youths have been entangled in social media usage leading to their addiction. The amount of time spent on smartphones continues to rise, and social media has become the new drug. Many youths are almost tethered to their smartphones, keeping these devices near and often checking them persistently. Most youths browse their phones while sleeping, waiting for notifications, and reach for their phones immediately they wake up. Such tendencies take a psychological toll on these social media users.

Facebook depression is defined as a kind of despair associated with the excessive use of social media. Facebook envy develops when users compare themselves with others affecting their satisfaction levels (Guinta and Rita 197). Envy is higher among heavy Facebook users and, in most cases, leads to depression. Screening for depression has become a norm due to the high volumes of social media usage in youths. Cyberbullying is common on social platforms and often leads to serious consequences. Images, especially those revealing large parts of the body, can be distributed via cell phones without permission leading to embarrassment and humiliation that cause distress.

While social media is designed to advance interconnections and keep the youth informed, it causes mental health issues. In early 1975, brothers John and Michael Phillips founded the Stone Horse Supply Company. John and Michael, both horse riders and horse owners, had developed a horse feed to keep their own horses healthier and happier and found it in demand from other locals and neighbors. In response to that growing local demand, John and Michael converted their small home operation into a rented building in town and went forward with the business of manufacturing and selling specialized horse feeds.

While John and Michael were excited about the prospect of the company and its product becoming a mainstream product with vastly increased sales, they both knew that they were already struggling to meet current customer demand and that the current methods used to run the company would be insufficient as it entered this next phase. More specifically, John and Michael were concerned about the company’s ability to order and maintain the correct inventories to meet the new sales projections or even if many of its suppliers could meet the higher volumes. John and Michael also were concerned about how they would get the materials to Stone Horse Supply Company because they currently used a single company truck to pick up most of the local materials. Finally, John and Michael were deeply concerned about inventory levels and the cash required maintaining those inventories because they were already experiencing excess cost and issues in this area.
Having decided to move forward, John and Michael’s company faced many questions regarding the new sales opportunity. Tasmanian Motor Rental (TMR) is set up as a proprietary company in car rental industry and is considering whether to enter the discount rental car market in Tasmania. This project would involve the purchase of 100 used late model, mid-sized cars at the average price of $15,000.
