Introduction

The performance of a network refers to the user’s perception of the network’s service quality. There are numerous methods for determining a network’s performance, depending on the network’s type and design. The information gathered by your network monitoring system allows your IT team to gain insight into performance indicators and the overall health of your network infrastructure. The following characteristics are used to quantify a network’s performance:

Bandwidth

Bandwidth can be defined as the amount of data or information transmitted in a certain amount of time under certain conditions. The quantity of bandwidth available on a network is one of the most important factors affecting a website’s performance. The amount of bandwidth available to a webserver impacts how quickly it can transfer the content that has been requested. While there are various aspects to consider when evaluating a website’s performance, bandwidth is occasionally the most limiting issue to consider (GeeksforGeeks, 2021). An NPM can keep track of the amount of bandwidth that is now being utilized as well as the amount of bandwidth that is spent on a daily basis.

Throughput

The throughput of a system is the number of messages that are successfully transmitted in a given amount of time. It is determined by the available signal-to-noise ratio, available bandwidth, the restrictions of the hardware, and the amount of time. As a result, the maximum throughput of a network may be greater than the actual throughput attained in ordinary consumption. Although the terms ‘throughput’ and ‘bandwidth’ are sometimes used interchangeably, they are actually distinct. In contrast to bandwidth, which is a prospective measurement of a link, throughput is a measurement of how quickly we can transfer data (GeeksforGeeks, 2021). The throughput of a network is determined by tabulating the amount of data transferred between various locations over a specified time period. Numerous factors can affect throughput, including end-user behavior, the processing power available to system components, and the underlying analog physical medium impedance.

Latency

During the process of data communication in a network, latency is defined as the total amount of time it takes for a complete message to arrive at its destination, beginning with the time the first bit of the message is sent out from the source and concluding with the time the last bit of the message has been delivered at the destination (GeeksforGeeks, 2021). The network connections that experience only minor delays are referred to as “Low-Latency-Networks,” however the network connections that experience significant delays are referred to as “High-Latency-Networks.”

Packet loss

This metric measures the amount of packets that are lost during a data transfer over a network. When data packets are dropped, the time it takes to fulfill a data request increases. Your IT team should be aware of the average number of packets dropped across the whole network architecture of your organization (Tomsho, 2019). Your network employees must check the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) of the network to ensure that it is functioning properly in order to prevent data packets from being dropped.

Availability

Network availability, sometimes known as uptime, is a metric that indicates whether or not a network is operational at any given time. Although it is difficult to guarantee 100% network uptime, you should be informed of any unexpected downtime so that you may plan ahead of time to mitigate the impact. If your network goes down, you need to be notified, and network monitoring tools can provide that service for you (Tomsho, 2019). However, you should be able to ascertain your genuine uptime percentage and the frequency of network outages in your environment.

Cloud Computing

It is the distribution of computing services via the Internet (the cloud), such as storage and servers as well as intelligence, databases, software, analytics, and networking. Cloud computing allows for economies of scale, fosters innovation, and more flexible resources (Wei & Blake, 2010). The key requirements that cloud service providers should be held accountable to include but not limited to:

Reliability; When choosing a cloud hosting service, reliability is the most critical issue for organizations to consider. The system’s capabilities and functionality must not be altered in any way. As long as a cloud hosting program can’t be used and accessible on a regular basis, it has no value whatsoever. Companies can use a variety of approaches to gauge their level of trustworthiness (Wei & Blake, 2010). Do some research on the industry and inquire for referrals if possible. Make the most of any chance you get to meet with a cloud hosting company representative to verify their authenticity since this is one of the most reliable methods of doing so.

Ease of Administration; Check to see that the cloud hosting firm offers a user-friendly solution that is straightforward to study, grasp, and put into action once you have chosen it (Wei & Blake, 2010). It will cost your firm time, money, and effort if it is unable to quickly and simply use a robust, secure platform, effectively offsetting many of the benefits of cloud-based platforms.

Scalability; Because of the scalability of cloud hosting platforms, your company will always have the processing power that it requires. A cloud hosting company should be able to give a number of pricing, storage, system retraction, system expansion, and functionality options tailored to the enterprise’s specific needs (Wei & Blake, 2010). Customers should be able to easily expand or decrease their cloud hosting requirements if they are working with a reputable cloud hosting provider.

Storage, retrieval, & backup; In the event of a data loss, cloud hosting companies must ensure that there is a sufficient amount of data backup available. Consider working with a cloud hosting company with a robust data backup system. It is critical that a cloud hosting system has the ability to store and retrieve information (Wei & Blake, 2010). A viable choice for cloud hosting is one in which data may be successfully stored, disposed of, retrieved, or viewed without interruption.

Cost; Check with potential suppliers to ensure that they can give low-cost service options that are tailored to your company’s requirements at a reasonable cost (Wei & Blake, 2010). To put it another way, make assured that the services and assistance supplied by the supplier are worth the money you are paying for them.

Challenges

Data movement between clouds; When using this strategy, the dangers are the same as when migrating data within a single cloud, with the added difficulty of switching service providers to account for the extra complexity. If you are transferring data from one cloud to another, the I/O expenses will be significantly higher (Wei & Blake, 2010). Decisions will be made slowly and methodically throughout the process. No matter how frequently you transfer or copy data across cloud storage providers, the cost of doing so can be prohibitively high. In some cases, a one-time cloud migration will necessitate the production of a new cloud copy from on-premises data as well as the destruction of the data stored on the original cloud provider’s server (Wei & Blake, 2010). In the case of cloud-based applications that require the most recent copy of data, saving money by mirroring data and delivering it to both clouds from the beginning may be a feasible option. The likelihood of irregular or unplanned migrations between clouds increases if you have the option to migrate from cloud to cloud.

Moving data within the cloud; Due to the significant price differentials across the various cloud tiers, it is vital to understand when to move data to a different layer. It’s natural to want to begin with the lowest storage option available (Tomsho, 2019). Regrettably, not all apps can communicate with every layer, and not every tier can provide the performance required by an application to process its data efficiently.

Getting data to the cloud; In most circumstances, an organization’s IT department will have two options when it comes to cloud-based data management: either treat cloud storage as the primary location for secured copies of data, or use cloud storage as an archive for on-premises data. Regardless of which option is selected, all data is transported to and stored in the cloud by the data protection service provider (Tomsho, 2019). Data that is unlikely to be required for on-premises recovery is frequently purged from earlier backup copies when utilizing the archive technique. Physical data storage on-premises using the archive methodology is less expensive and takes up less floor area than other methods of data storage. While the cloud can be used for both storage and computation, a business will almost certainly want a complete copy of its data stored on the cloud and the most recent data changes reflected in that set of data stored on cloud computing. Even if data protection software locates the duplicate in the cloud, a complete baseline copy of data can be updated quickly (Tomsho, 2019). As a result, any solution that is capable of rapid updates is well-suited to resolving the issue of data movement to and from the cloud.

Philosophy aims at getting the most knowledge in every ideological and cultural aspect (Craig 1). The origin of philosophy is depicted as the etymologizing of the school. From another point of view, the source of philosophy is the origin of different schools of thought. China is home to various philosophical perspectives, such as influential philosophies like Taoism. Taoist philosophers, also known as Daoist philosophers (De Meyer 364), can be surprising since their arguments are often incomprehensible and disseminate messages at various levels.

In many cases, they attempt to change the way individuals comprehend. They differ from Socrates and western philosophers because they do not try to achieve a direct answer to moralistic problems. Instead, they attempt to make individuals see themselves and the universe in a manner that is not instantaneously palpable and cannot be illustrated or explained by words. Indirect communication characterizes Taoism. Lao Tzu, a Chinese philosopher, brought the perspective of Taoism (De Meyer 364). Plato’s philosophy was more famous than Lao Tzu’s because his teachings were widely known and accepted worldwide. However, people from China widely took into account Lao Tzu’s work.

Aristotle’s method of contrasts can help explain what individuals attempt to comprehend. If people can understand the opposite of an idea, we mostly get clarity. Works of philosophers like Plato and oriental philosophies, such as Taoism, have some similarities. Despite their similarities, they have some distinct differences (Craig 1). Considering the previous explanation, the philosophies founded by the forms and the Taos are two particular philosophies that considered individuals discord for the betterment of their lives but still had very perceptions and concepts. This paper will discuss the similarities and differences between the Forms and the Taos ideas. It contains textual shreds of evidence from Socrates and Chuang Tzu.

Overview of the Forms and the Tao

The form is a theory developed by one of the greatest philosophers, Plato. It is also called the view of ideas. The essence of the theory is to provide thoughts on the trueness and the untrueness of the physical world. Plato came up with the idea that phenomena and eternity are timeless (Chaudhuri 337). According to the form theory, objects may be unseen or abstract. Since the theory’s inception, it has been regarded as a classical explanation of the world’s problems. Plato’s theory of forms created clarity on the issues of the universals in metaphysics. Other philosophers also contributed to the problem of universals. The idea resulted in various philosophical disputes.

This paper is based on comparing and contrasting Plato’s and Tao’s ideas. Therefore, it is essential to start by stating their origin. Plato was from the western part of the world, while Tao was from China. Their cultural difference is crucial when discussing their perspectives because the disparities create different understanding and views of life.

Comparisons and Contrast

There are more differences between Plato’s forms and Lao Tzu’s Tao ideas than the similarities. First, Plato’s dominance was in the world’s western parts, while Lao Tzu stormed from China. The cultural disparities are excellent references during the ideologies discussion. There are different life perceptions, and comprehension from the cultural differences breed in this case. An example is raising a child to believe in the criticalness of preserving life because it is sacred (Chaudhuri 340). Therefore, the kid will never agree with other societal setups, perceiving life can end during wars or battles. Some people see death as bravery, while others see it as devastating. It is an issue relating to one of the Socrates quotes by talking about the betterment of changing an opinion than sticking to a wrong one (Chaudhuri 337). The children will grow up with the belief taught to them while young, regardless of it being true or false.

Everyone knows about the positive impact continuous education has on gaining knowledge whereby; Plato likens it to virtues. He believes both virtues and knowledge are from a single source, as many of his ideas are from Socrates’ teachings (De Meyer 364). There is a link between Plato’s form and one of Socrates’ quotes about not teaching people but making them think. It relates that creating ideas in people’s brains is the same as allowing them to generate knowledge. For instance, a child will never know the right and wrong things to engage in while growing up. It will be the duty of their parents to instill value by giving them information on the right things, which is equivalent to passing knowledge (De Meyer 364). The kid will, later on, meet teachers who will also be passing knowledge to them through storytelling about someone like a saint. Therefore, Plato believes that the kids might grow to be like saints through the natural knowledge passing, which is continuous.

On the other hand, Lao Tzu’s virtues idea differs from Plato’s form. He believes in the self-observation theory regarding the acquisition of virtues. He is against the knowledge acquired as everything comes naturally (Chaudhuri 340). One of his quotes talks about unlimited knowledge while human life has a limit. He explains it as a dangerous move to use life to pursue knowledge. According to the Tao idea, every child has a good heart after being born. The theory insists on negative energies influencing like staying around evil people. Tao Tzu uses the water illustration to prove that introspection suits better as virtue’s source over the education idea. In this case, water does not attempt to do anything nor does anything on purpose, which appears to him as equivalent to virtues (De Meyer 364). Its flowing style is dependent on the way nature decides it flows. Therefore, other forces have to work upon water for it to serve other purposes or become destructive, meaning the difference will always arise from self-evaluation or external forces. It will mean before considering human beings as virtuous, they will follow whatever arises from their hearts, evaluate then act in accordance without really having the intention.

An example is the greed concept which arises from resources or opportunities exploitation. The urge of wanting to gain or do more is what breeds greed (Chaudhuri 340). For instance, if someone instructs an elephant to climb a tree, it will fail to do so not because it is unwilling but because its features cannot support them. It is a case relating to education where someone can fail to perform a task due to their inabilities, not unwillingness (Craig 1). Therefore, according to this illustration, introspection leads to virtue over education.

In addition, the people appreciate the two philosophers and their explanations with their philosophies having limitations. Several individuals believe in a conglomeration of the two ideologies because there can be teachings on virtues (De Meyer 364). In this case, one can use knowledge instilled from a brave person rather than introspection dependence.

Plato and Lao Tzu both introduce their ideologies concerning emotions that can potentially impact someone’s behavior and thinking. They differ upon it as Lao Tzu urges that the emotions released by a person should not be celebrated but refrained (De Meyer 364). He believes that any emotion is a disruption of the soul’s calmness. One of his quotes shows that people should flow with whatever may come to happen and let their minds free.

On the contrary, Plato argues that emotional release is like a window to people’s minds. According to Lao Tzu’s Tao, the Chinese are shrouded, making it hard for one to identify what they think about a subject or their dislikes (Chaudhuri 340). They keep their things to themselves that even in today’s world with the internet, very little leaks out, which is a situation different from the Westerners. The western world expresses almost everything they feel or think like some of them usually express themselves through music. They easily give information about things such as the environment or type of food they like to people far away from them whenever they listen to songs (De Meyer 364). According to Plato’s form, the emotional expression is critical for identifying one’s realizations, wants, and dislikes turning them into open individuals. The emotions always carry with the people’s insights, thoughts, and ideas.

In addition, Plato’s form advocated for rationalism and individualism, while Lao Tzu’s Tao advocated for emotionalism and collectivism. Plato urges people to have logical thinking patterns and practice individualism which is common in western countries like America (Chaudhuri 337). He relates his idea with the language developments that are used to date. On the contrary, Lao Tzu’s Tao advocates for a collectivism which entails setting a group as a priority over a single person. It is a concept similar to Karl Marx’s philosophy from Germany (Chaudhuri 340). He was the founder of communism, a similar idea to collectivism by Lao Tzu in which they advocated for groups coming first ahead of individuals. The people of China believe in communism to date, making it a chief peculiarity in the communities.

Plato dissects the growth severally in languages proving the usefulness of his idea. English contains clauses, sentences, and phrases due to its complex internal grammar with particular patterns. As a language, it has word orders of subject-verb agreement, active and passive voices, and tenses (Chaudhuri 340). On the other hand, such details are unavailable when one focuses on the Chinese language. It lacks the complexities in English as strictness in grammar demand is not necessary. People can communicate in Chinese while excluding elements like the subject but still understand the meaning and context without more distinctions (Chaudhuri 337). Therefore, it indicates that their ideological trends are inherent and affect their descendants in the region.

Lastly, Plato’s form and Lao Tzu’s Tao differ in their state laws philosophies. Plato considered idealism the best state law, while Lao Tzu believed in materialism. Tzu explains that there should not be strictness in leadership as the emperor should let people live and enjoy their life freely (De Meyer 364). They only have the task of obeying the natural laws and the emperor. On the contrary, Plato advocates for strict laws by the emperor to restrain against engaging in unethical activities.

In conclusion, Plato’s and Lao’s ideologies have sentiments portraying two communities that are different. One society believes in always being calm, while another in aggressiveness (Craig 1). It explains why Lao Tzu was for covering emotions as it tempers with peace and soul calmness. When people agree that expressing emotions causes negativity, they will hide it and later disappear or let it go. However, due to the people’s views being available in the societies, they express their thoughts, making it easy to identify like-minded individuals and others (Chaudhuri 340). The different thoughts, views, and opinions breed the aggressive nature common in the Westerners. In this case, the sentiments of Socrates and Plato make sense, along with those from Lao Tzu Te Ching.

Conclusion

In summary, both Lao Tzu and Plato have incredible achievements in philosophy and the impacts they are making across the world. The two philosophies have more differences than similarities between them. They have different beliefs, laws, governing, and virtue. A combination of the true essences can be crucial in creating a better world. Plato’s form borrows a lot from Socrates’ philosophies, with their evidence having close relations.

An example is the community’s ideologies where kids grow without knowing what is right and wrong. They might learn from their life experiences as they grow up or be taught by their parents then later on by their teachers. The kids will always want to grow up similarly to that person. There are also the differences between the language’s ideologies. English has a particular pattern for people to follow due to its internal complex grammar, while Chinese has none. One can speak in Chinese without the subject elements and still the meaning and context without distinctions.

In the lives of pupils, teachers have a significant impact. Every teacher’s responsibility is to bring out the best in their students and inspire them to strive for excellence. Students are regarded as the nation’s and humanity’s future, and a teacher is seen as a trustworthy guide for their development. Information, ethical values, tradition, modern-day challenges, and answers are instilled in children by their teachers. Teachers may help students understand facts and concepts through real-life experiences outside the textbook. Students may apply what they’ve learned in various disciplines using real-life examples. Improving student-teacher connections has significant, positive, and long-term academic and social consequences. Improving students’ relationships with their professors isn’t enough to boost their academic performance. Students who have solid, dependable, and supportive connections with their teachers outperform students who have more conflicts.

Work-life balance is an essential factor in improving teacher performance and happiness in the classroom. It has been demonstrated repeatedly that a solid work-life balance leads to staff well-being and improved student behavior. Being a teacher is challenging, and they must deal with various situations during their careers. A commoner teacher and a great teacher have distinct features. Teachers must act as role models for the applicants, holding them in high esteem. Teachers deal with a lot of pressure day-in-day-out, and as research has proved, three-quarters of teachers regularly say their jobs are stressful. Teachers are more likely to be physically and emotionally exhausted when they leave work and bring work home. A teacher who does not balance work and personal life risks being burned out.

Work-life balance is vital for underlying psychological well-being and increased self-esteem, job satisfaction, and a general feeling of harmony in life. These are markers of a good balance between work and family duties. It is critical to be more efficient and effective in the teaching profession to achieve work satisfaction, ensuring the successful shaping of a student community. Simultaneously, work-life balance allows academics to be more effective in their career while simultaneously balancing personal responsibilities and family obligations.

NYPD White Paper – Technological Utilization in Policing Work Project

Improving the New York Police Department’s Community Relations, Police Performance, and Reaction to Future Challenges through Body Camera and Social Media Technologies.

By Philip Austin, Law Enforcer at NYPD

Introductory Information

Police brutality has for a long time been a controversial issue in the USA and a challenge that has negatively impacted the image of the law enforcement unit in the public’s eye. Police officers are supposed to serve the population and to have better performance in their law enforcement tasks; they must relate well with the community. Even though statistics indicate that the rate of police use of force is gradually decreasing in the global society, the influence of the few cases that are experienced is growing at a fast rate. Such a significant change in the law enforcement environment is largely associated with the rise of technology in terms of social media and other digital communication channels. A simple post on Facebook or Instagram can go a long way into defining the how a certain community perceives the work of police and how they are supposed to relate with it. Nevertheless, the same channels can be utilized in the positive manner as they offer police work with opportunities to effective cater for the security needs of the community while still building a positive relationship. The department’s plan to utilize body camera and social media platforms to build community relations is a good way through which performances in law enforcement can be improved. Nevertheless, before implementing the strategy it is essential to understand the current and future challenges policing field so as to establish how technology can be utilized to create safer communities.

Future Challenges

One of the main challenges that is in store in the future of the NYPD comes from the rise of new technologies. New technologies are always being developed and can be found in almost every aspect of life. Hence, police work in the future is expected to adopt such changes so as to effectively serve the community. Adoption of new technology is a challenging process that NYPD should be waiting for. Technology will also be the source of the expected challenge of new forms of criminal activities. The array of activities to be categorized under cybercrime is increasing on a daily basis with technological advancements ushering in new crime tricks (Lave, et al. 2019). For instance, cyberbullying is growing into being defined as a punishable offence in some societies while others are yet to adopt the idea. Maintaining a productive workforce will also be challenging given that the younger generation seems to have a different perspective of the profession and showcase less interest in joining the police force. Community changes will also be the source to future policing challenges as the populations direct impacts the nature and capabilities in policing.

Community Relations Influences on Challenges that Police Officers Face

Effective policing and maintenance of public safety is largely affected by the development of mutual relationship between police institution and the population that they serve. Mutual understanding creates trust that builds the foundation to help the policing work achieve its goals (Arble, et al. 2021). Hence, the impacts that the relationship between the community and NYPD determines the ability of the agency to effectively and consistently solve the problems being faced during policing. Community relations offer the police department a chance to active learn of what is happening in the society and so limiting the chances of new technologies adoption being a problem in department activities. Community relations is also the source into building connection to future generation law enforcers who desire the appropriate motivation in maintaining a positive perspective and attitude towards police work. With community relations the capacity to actively know and control the development of new criminal activities is enhanced.

The Importance of Using Body Camera in Police Work

The use of body cameras is essential in developing accountability and effectiveness in police work as it offers the ability to oversee and store data on almost every activity that police officers engage in. For instance, the cases of police brutality can be easily controlled by body cameras as such incidents will be recorded and the officer will be liable for their actions. Body cameras will create a sense of responsibility as the will know that their actions are being recorded and used against them if found liable. Hence, the levels of accountability will be expected to increase while still the effectiveness in policing is enhanced.

The Importance of Using Social Media in NYPD Activities

Social media will help in creating a good relationship with the community as it impacts the image that the served population has on the policing agency. The use of social media services will offer the agency a chance to effectively community with the people of New York city and so being able to build a strong community relation. The free flow of information is key in developing better crime control strategies as information on various aspects affecting community’s security can be easily located. Social media also offers a chance for the community to be actively involved in the department’s activities.

New Technologies Available for the Department to Utilize

The new technology that can be utilized by NYPD is facial recognition tools which are useful in identifying criminals. The technology will help to improve the speed of solving crimes while still being able to have better chances of controlling crime. For instance, a robbery case that was caught on camera can be easily solved with facial recognition technology.

Recommendation to the New York Police Department

I recommend that the New York Police department adopts the proposed technological elements in its operation as it is the key to handling future challenges. With the technological changes the institution will not only improve its officers efficiency and accountability but also offer a chance for the department to build better relationship with the community.
