2) Listen to Brill CD 1, tracks 1-4
3.) Watch the entire film The Mission (1986), with Robert DeNiro and Jeremy Irons, about the experiences of a Jesuit missionary in 18th century South America. Before watching the film, be sure you have completed the Brill listening and reading assignments to date, particularly the discussion of the Black/White legend, otherwise you cannot evaluate the film for this assignment. If the assignment does not follow instructions for format or content, it will be given a zero and returned for revision.

Present your own, original critical analysis of how the film portrays the issues of the Black/White legend (as read about in Brill) and discuss how the film addresses this and other topics covered by Brill in chapters 1-2. Be sure to point out how aspects of BOTH legends are portrayed in the film.

This is not a research paper: it is an analysis paper on the specific question of how the film portrays the Black vs. White Legend, on the role and types of music in the film, and how music forms a historical narrative in the film. The essay must comprise your own ideas and be in your own words, with at least one quote from Brill.
6.) be sure to discuss how the music you were assigned to listen to and read about meaningfully relates to the film. For each statement you make, give examples from scenes and the film score. Try to take a balanced but critical stance on the film’s treatment and presentation of the subject matter discussed in Brill; do not just passively describe what you watched. There are many competing sides and interests in this film, not just colonists vs. indigenous peoples. Think about the following: What conflicts are presented? What are the conflicting interests and agendas of each group: Spanish, Portuguese, Jesuits, The Vatican, the Indigenous tribes? Does the film try to be impartial or does it seem to take a specific side? (Does it present both good and bad aspects of both sides of the Black and White Legend)? How? Does it leave the viewer with questions or answers? Do you think the film offers a useful historical perspective on the reading assignment? Are the characters nuanced and realistic, or are they superficial caricatures that are clearly “good guys” and “bad guys” and thus not believable? If so, explain. 8.) Do not write a plot summary. One or two sentences at the beginning may give an overview of the subject and how you plan to address the topic. You will not write a summary of the film, but your essay should demonstrate that you have understood the plot, the main characters, the countries involved, and the social, political and moral conflicts that comprise the film’s subject.
9.) Do not use internet sources (other than the film), such as reviews, summaries, or other written material. You must include at least one meaningful quotation from Brill to make your arguments, and you must give the bibliographic reference for the citation (Brill, p.#). Quality not quantity is important. Longer papers of very high quality will be accepted, with potential for additional credit. Do not pad the paper with irrelevant chatter. It won’t count.
10.) Papers must be proofread before submission, and free of basic spelling and punctuation errors. If you have English as a second language, don’t worry. Run spell-checker, and check that proper nouns (names of people and places) are capitalized and spelled correctly. I am not looking for perfection, just excellence! The correlation between racism and police brutality in America.

Recent police shootings of African Americans in the U.S. have sparked widespread protests and debates about the prevalence of systemic racism in law enforcement. Racialized practices and stereotypes are often used to advantage one group over another. The growing number of police shootings of African Americans has sparked debate about the prevalence of systemic racism in law enforcement. It also highlights the need for a more comprehensive discussion about the country’s institutional and structural racism.

The data available for this topic are qualitative and quantitative. In 2020, there will likely be around a thousand police killings in the U.S. This is an increase from the killings that occurred last year. The statistics about the country’s police officers are very different from those of other developed nations. In the U.S., there have been 429 civilian shootings, with 88 African Americans (Schwartz, 2020). The number of fatal police shootings has increased significantly over the past few years. In 2018, there were 996 police shootings, and in 2019, over a hundred (Schwartz, 2020). The rate of fatal police shootings in the country was higher among African Americans than in other ethnic groups. This numerical data is accompanied by text, video, and audio that helps researchers understand concepts, opinions, or experiences of Americans within the study’s subgroup.

The history of racial inequality in America and the recent spike in clandestine killings provides qualitative and quantitative data on the topic. As such, there is no difficulty in finding research methodologies.

Having reliable data is very important for any research project, as it can help you identify a trend or a meaningful relationship. However, suppose you have a limited amount of data. In that case, it can limit the scope of your analysis and prevent you from achieving a meaningful relationship which limits the scope of discussion. Therefore, the number of units of study that you use depends on the type of research.

One of the essential components of a research project is a literature review based on different research methodologies, which is used to identify the scope of the work that has already been done. This process also builds the foundations for the researcher’s future research. However, if prior research is hard to find, then the research question is a hypothesis or in its infancy.

A mixed methods approach is generally considered the best way to answer research questions that neither qualitative nor quantitative methods can provide. It allows participants to have a stronger voice and contribute to the discussion of the research. It can also help facilitate the exchange of ideas and perspectives between researchers (Mangels e al., 2020). In addition to providing a more accurate analysis of the data, mixed methods can also help improve the quality of the research by allowing researchers to see how their own experiences are related to the issues being studied.

The use of mixed methods in developing interventions is a continuum of science that can be applied to the various stages of program development. Although it may require initial evaluation phases, it is also beneficial to facilitate translation by involving the settings where the intervention will be delivered (Mangels e al., 2020). Participating in mixed methods techniques in developing interventions is crucial for mixed methods in behavioral and mental health research. This type of research can be used to enhance the design of an intervention. In addition, through mixed methods, researchers can explore the subjects’ prior and after-effects of the intervention. These studies are becoming more popular and provide insight into the mechanisms by which the intervention affects the participants.

Criminology has been researching the intersection of law enforcement and race for years. This has been met with mixed reactions from practitioners and the public. Many police officers see research on race and policing as an attempt to paint them as racist. Despite the passage of a new law requiring police departments to provide information about the deaths of their officers, many agencies have not done so. This deficiency means that the public cannot see the complete picture of racism and police brutality in America. Even if the police departments do comply with the new legislation, it could take years before the data is compiled and made available. The data collected by these research databases are carefully sourced from various sources. These include FatalEncounters.org, the US Police Shootings Database, and KilledbyPolice.net. Through extensive research on social media and other sources, such as police reports and criminal records databases, the databases were able to identify the race of the victims of police brutality. Moreover, qualitative research relies on observation, questionnaires, and interviews to collect data relevant to race and police brutality in America.

One of the most common methods of gathering primary data in social science is through interviews and surveys. Both methods involve asking a wide range of questions about an individual’s characteristics and opinions. In the latter, researchers look for open-ended answers to various questions. These methods give the researcher the power to ask the questions they want. Aside from being able to ask the questions, the researcher also has the opportunity to customize the content of the survey.

Observational studies involve relying on the researcher’s ability to collect information through their senses. This type of research is similar to other methods in that the researcher has the power to set the procedures for collecting data. The survey aims to gather as much information as possible, and this method has authentic appeal. It’s directed toward the researcher’s specific research questions and objectives.

Aside from being able to collect data, gathering primary data through these methods can be very time-consuming and challenging. It’s not easy to design the proper research protocols for different types of studies, such as interviews and surveys. One of the most common factors that can prevent researchers from getting the right results is the design of the survey instruments.

Observation studies can also be complex and leave you with a lot of data that is not ideal for your research. In addition to being time-consuming, conducting these studies can be ethically complex. Getting the correct number of respondents and conducting an interview are some of the most common factors affecting collecting primary data. Other factors, such as the length of the study and the time it takes to get the necessary number of respondents, can also contribute to the time-consuming process.

Specific methods of data collection are not only more accurate than others, but they also threaten the credibility of the data that they collect. This risk occurs because using these methods will not provide the complete picture of what is being researched. Aside from the type of data collected, other factors such as the time and cost of the project, cultural sensitivity, and language can also affect the credibility of the data being studied. One of the most common reasons people might not support a particular data collection method is bias.

However, one of the main advantages of using multiple data sources in a research project is that it allows you to get a deeper understanding of the involved people. This advantage will enable you to improve the data quality and discover why they do what they do. Unfortunately, using multiple methods can be more complex than one method. Collecting and interpreting the data can also take a lot of expertise. Doing so requires additional resources, such as time and money.
